My TPMS is on and off no matter what I do. I have checked all the tires with a US made dial pressure guage...still get random low pressure warnings!
I think the 09s were equipped with wierd sensors.

Good move bj, I'm afraid the jeep TPMS system is a real PITA and the AEVPM will cure that, along with other benefits-
If your jeep is a DD, you might look into one of the superchips, although I don't believe that for twice the price of the AEVPM, you'll realize any improvement !!

Alright, so let's see if I've got the basics. First, if your Jeep is set up for a "5 tire system," your spare will be in "Sleep Mode" or "Park Mode" and may indeed trigger the TPMS alarm. Second, if your Jeep is not set up for a "5 tire system," your spare will still be in either "Sleep Mode" or "Park Mode" but because the Jeep will only register the four rotating wheels no amount of deflation in the spare could set of the TPMS alarm. Third, and this is a big one folks--the MANUAL WAS (at least in part) WRONG!!!
Based on the foregoing, I will offer another way to see if you're on a 4 or 5 tire system. Check all five tires and confirm they're at the proper PSI, then drop the spare way down. Presuming you've achieved at least a "1 PSI delta change" the sensor in your spare should try to alert the Jeep, regardless of whether the spare is in "Sleep Mode" or "Park Mode". If you TPMS light turns on after deflating the spare, your Jeep must be registering five tires, so congrats--you have a 5 tire system.
If anybody tries this, I'd love to hear the results.

|firstname.lastname@example.org||From what I have been told, a vehicle can be set up for a 4 or 5 tire system, meaning that some vehicles that have been set up for 5 tire system will make the tpms light go off if the spare is low. The only way to know for sure is to have a dealer put your Wrangler on a scan tool and read the information.|

The tire pressure monitoring system is designed to operate without loss of function for all OEM tire construction for this vehicle. Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors, mounted to each road wheel as part of the valve stem, transmit an RF signal indicating their individual pressure to a receiver located in the Wireless Control Module (WCM), commonly referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM).These transmissions occur approximately once every minute at speeds over 15 mph (24 km/h). If the TPM system detects that the tire pressure in any road tire is going low, beyond the Low Pressure (lamp) ON threshold (see placard table below), the TPM system will continuously illuminate an indicator lamp. If a system fault is detected, the indicator lamp will flash on/off for 75 seconds and then remain on solid.
If the WCM detects a warning or fault condition at ignition key "on" it will wait ten seconds +/- 10 % before sending the first request to illuminate the yellow TPM telltale lamp. This will assure that the display module has concluded its bulb check period. The display module will request a chime once per ignition cycle for each "warning" or "fault" condition detected. A "warning" or "fault" condition will remain enabled until the problem causing the condition is corrected and removed/reset.
The WCM shall continuously monitor for the receipt of tire pressure RF message transmissions from the TPM sensors during both the ignition key "on" and key "off" cycles. The TPM sensor ID's and the location of each sensor (e.g. Tire 1, Tire 2 etc.) are stored in the WCM non-volatile memory during the initial Manufacturing Plant Process, or during a service procedure, as required. The recommended "placard pressure", "low-pressure threshold" and “Hysteresis Pressure Values” for the tires installed on the vehicle, are stored in the WCM non-volatile memory during the initial Manufacturing Plant Process, or during a service procedure, as required.

|landmarkbuilder||the spare on both my 2009 unlimited and 2010 2dr can and do illuminate the light on the dash, contrary to the owners manual. Why it does, when the manual is telling it not too, I cant say for certain, but at least i can take comfort in knowing that if i do get a flat, the spare will be ready to go.....Unless the owners manual is being cautious, so that people will pay attention to the spare more?? I mean, we already cant brake, accelerate, or power slide in a Jeep by ourselves now, without Mother Computer having a hand in it! hehe! heck, who knows....|

NOTE: The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) will warn the driver of a low tire pressure based on the vehicle recommended cold placard pressure.
The tire pressure will vary with temperature by about 1 psi (6.9 kPa) for every 12°F (6.5°C). When the outside temperature decreases, the tire pressure will decrease. Tire pressure should always be set based on cold inflation tire pressure. This is defined as the tire pressure after a vehicle has not been driven for more than 3 hours - and in outside ambient temperature. The tire pressure will also increase as the vehicle is driven - this is normal and there should be no adjustment for this increased pressure.
The TPM System will warn the driver of a low tire pressure if the tire pressure falls below the low pressure warning threshold for any reason, including low temperature effects.
The TPM System will continue to warn the driver of low tire pressure as long as the condition exists, and will not turn off until the tire pressure is at or above recommended cold placard pressure. Once the low tire pressure warning has been illuminated, the tire pressure must be increased to the recommended cold placard pressure in order for the TPM warning lamp to be turned off. The system will automatically update and the TPM warning lamp will extinguish once the updated tire pressures have been received. The vehicle may need to be driven for up to 10 minutes above 15 mph (25 kph) to receive this information.

The battery operated tire pressure sensor is both a transmitter and a receiver. The TPM sensor can be forced to transmit if using a special tool such as a TPM-RKE Analyzer, or from a transponder. (Refer to 22 – TIRES/WHEELS/TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING/TRANSPONDER - OPERATION) The TPM-RKE Analyzer has the ability to change the sensor’s operating mode and to diagnose a faulty TPM sensor. Using a TPM-RKE Analyzer can take up to a minute to force a transmission from a sensor. The TPM sensor can be in one of the following modes:
•• Sleep Mode – This is the operating mode of a new TPM sensor. If placed on the vehicle as a road tire, the sensor will transmit once every 20 seconds when the vehicle is driven at speeds over 15 mph (24 km/h). If the vehicle is not moving, the sensor will only transmit on a pressure change greater then 1 PSI. Driving the vehicle continuously at this speed for more then 4 minutes will change the sensor state into 30 BLOCK MODE. The TPM sensor will not return to SLEEP MODE. Now, if the vehicle has been stopped for 20 minutes, the TPM sensor state will change to PARK MODE. If the vehicle is equipped with a full size matching spare tire and the spare tire sensor has been replaced, The sensor must be changed to Park Mode to conserve battery life. Either use a TPM-RKE Analyzer, or swap the spare tire with a road tire.
•• Park Mode – This is the correct operating mode when the vehicle is not moving. The sensor will transmit once every 13 hours to update the WCM, or will transmit on a 1 PSI delta change. The sensors will internally take a measurement of the tire pressure every minute to determine a change in tire pressure
•• 30 Block Mode – If the vehicle has been stopped for more then 20 minutes, or if the sensor’s operating mode was forced to Park Mode using a TPM-RKE Analyzer, the sensor’s operating mode will transition from Park Mode to 30 Block Mode once the vehicle is driven over 15mph. In this mode, the sensor will transmit once every 15 seconds when the vehicle is driven at speeds over 15 mph (24 km/h) for the first 30 transmissions. After about 8 minutes of continuous driving above 15 mph (24 km/h), the sensor’s mode will change to Drive Mode
•• Drive Mode – In this mode, the sensor will transmit once every minute when the vehicle is driven at speeds over 15 mph (24 km/h). At any time the vehicle speed drops below 15 mph, the sensor will not transmit. The sensor mode will still be in drive mode when the sensor reaches speeds over 15 mph (24 km/h), If the vehicle has been stationary for more then 20 minutes, the TPM sensor will change to PARK MODE.
Each sensor’s (transmitter) broadcast is uniquely coded so that the wireless control module (WCM) can monitor the state of each of the sensors on the four rotating road wheels. The WCM can automatically learn and store the sensor’s ID while driving “within 10 minutes continuously above 15 m.p.h. (24 Km/h)” after a sensor has been replaced, The vehicle must be stationary for more then 20 minutes in order to initiate the learning sequence. The sensor IDs can also be programmed using the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool. Scan each TPM sensor at each road wheel, and store each Sensor ID in the correct location. (LEFT FRONT, LEFT REAR, RIGHT FRONT, and RIGHT REAR)

any word pato?
I know the manual says one thing, but my jeep seems to do the opposite. I had a leak in a tire right around the time of rotation, rotated that tire to the spare location. Took me about a week to get it patched up and every time it got low my light would go off until i filled up my spare and got it patched...this was even on hour long trips, not just at start up.

Advantages of Nitrogen -vs- Air in Your Tires
Besides the fact that pure Nitrogen has a different density than air (Nitrogen+Oxygen+CO2+Helium/Argon/Krypton/Neon/Xenon/Radon), which renders it less susceptible to the daily variations in Barometric Pressure and Temperature (both of which equate to pressure changes), it is also dry. You'll see fewer failures of the TPMS sensors due to corrosion.

When I got my 2010 JKU, everything was great for about a week -- and then the stupid tire pressure sensor lit up and wouldn't go away (I'd say about 400 miles after taking it home). I took it to the dealership and turns out they had changed the tires/rims and forgot to put the sensors in the new tires. They added the sensors and of course the problem was solved... as for cold weather setting it off, I don't think so. I've gone from almost 100 degree weather to about 20 degree weather and not had any false alarms.
It sounds like you might have a similar problem that I had, as the mileage/timing is about the same. Take it back to the dealership.

- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Light
Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly, when cold and inflated to the inflation pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you should determine the proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure telltale when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illuminates, you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.
IF THE LIGHT STARTS FLASHING INDICATING A LOW TIRE PRESSURE, ADJUST THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE LOW TIRE TO THE AIR PRESSURE SHOWN ON THE VEHICLE PLACARD OR TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE LABEL LOCATED ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR. NOTE: AFTER INFLATION, THE VEHICLE MAY NEED TO BE DRIVEN FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE THE FLASHING LIGHT WILL TURN OFF.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver’s responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure, even if under-inflation has not reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue each time the vehicle is restarted as long as the malfunction exists.
When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle, to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly.
The TPMS has been optimized for the original equipment tires and wheels. TPMS pressures and warning have been established for the tire size equipped on your vehicle. Undesirable system operation or sensor damage may result when using replacement equipment that is not of the same size, type, and/or style. Aftermarket wheels can cause sensor damage. Do not use tire sealant from a can, or balance beads if your vehicle is equipped with a TPMS, as damage to the sensors may result.

I know for a fact, that my last vehicle's TPMS was set off by the spare. I always check the 4 on the ground, but who checks the spare? Every change in season, which isn't much in FL. my alarm would go off. I"d have to lower the spare and climb underneath to set pressure.
Jeep made it easy. Put the spare on the back.
