omg, you solved my questions again..

i noticed that my blower would shut off every time i went to the vent position. i thought it was broken. Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me. I saw some vents up above my heater vents, but still under the dash. Are those my "free air" vents? Like the only thing powering them is the fresh air depending on how fast I am going? For the air vent, I have to check that hose? I saw some sort of drain hose which was attached to my A/C box I removed. Is that what you mean, or is there another one? After my wash, I DID notice a big bunch of water on my passenger floor under my carpet!!!

I did removed my entire A/C system tonight btw. I am always after simplicity, and I knew I didnt feel like paying any money to fix it. This is just a 3rd toy for us, we both have our new cars for serious business. I don't think I'll drive it much in the winter, its too cold. I did not have to drain my radiator to get the condensor out. I just unbolted the radiator carefully and pulled it forward like 1". The only piece that is still in there is my compressor, until I can buy the new shorter belt for "non-A/C".

moneypit89 Actually 401a is the drop in replacement for r12. Its a little less expensive and you dont have to switch anything over. I assume you took it to a mechanic and this is what they told you. I would try to have someone charge it first. Or just rip it out i dont care. LOL

alot of those controls are controled by cabling not wiring so maybe a cable slipped of the door somewhere

If you keep it in the condition it is in say in 8 or 10 years some one may come along and pay big bucks for "the sahara yj" that they have always wanted. I'm not saying make this thing into a mall crawler just dont go hacking it up,if you want to do that buy another trail rig.

just my 2 cents

Pros and Cons of removing my factory A/C?

Pros and Cons of removing my factory A/C?

Thinking of just ripping it out. For starters, I got a quote of about $150 just to charge it and see if it has any leaks. Thats before they determine if any parts need to br replaced. Then a conversion would cost at least $200 more if they replaced the dryer, etc.. I just dont know if I really want to spend all that money fixing the A/C. Now if I don't, I would assume pull out the whole system, so I can have a more simple car, more room inside, etc. How would this effect resale value if at all, with me removing the factory A/C? I have no plans to sell, but a couple years down the road I might be ready to pass it on. Thoughts?
