dnbearcat After a week of dry time i finally put it all back together along with the new Big Boy Seat Brackets. The liner turned out better than i thought and when i got all the seats and what not it looked even better.

The rear seat broken bolt fix ended up being a pain in the butt. We drilled tehm all the way out 5/16'' and tapped them for some new bolts. Seems to have worked out well, they are down nice and tight.

The seat brackets went in pretty easy and i think if you have long legs and limbs it is definitely worth it. You do get about 4 inches, more of room. You can see in the pictures the difference in seats. Needless to say if its back all the way someone behind you better be a child. But i guess you can always scoot back to normal position. I have a 36'' inseam and can extend my left leg all the way out now.


I do have the passenger side brackets and don't think im going to install them so if anyone wants to pick them up for their jeep i can make a deal on them. Just send me a message here or dnbearcat@yahoo.com if you are interested.

My pedals were slippery when my feet were wet or when ever I wear cleats, (which is alot) so I cleaned up my pedals and hurculined them too We'll see how well they hold up, but if it comes off then who cares

dnbearcat I dont know about that, mine are still in pretty good shape and i like the rubber gripping. Not sure how steel ones would feel, especially when feet are wet. Might be something to consider, especially if your on a trail and a foot slips off. Just my thoughts.

Pedal swap

So now that you have the Herculiner in place and before you re-assemble the interior, have you thought about swapping out the pedals? After I coat my 95 YJ, I want to throw out the factory peddles in favor of steel. Has anyone done it? What pedals do you recommend?

Like I said, my buddies is white, and we just had to do more of a detailed job, but if you think about it, we had to do a better job as a result of that. It made it very easy to see spots we missed, and thus eliminating weak points.

Heres my suggestion, do the fender wells first, then the rear floor, (bed i guess) then the driver and passenger areas. This will make it much easier to do the detail work up around the fender rails around the roll bars because you can climb in there.

cheap_jeep neitherFanboy, U-pol makes a product that you can tint to match the vehicle color. So whites not out of the question. Just did my wifes(cheap_jeep) 2 weeks ago. did entire tub though in red. I guess I have to post pics when I get back home.

ExDementia Just Hurculined my Jeep, its drying right now before the second coat, I'm very happy I decided to do it! It also makes it ALOT easier that my Jeep is black, I can just fade the stuff out. We did my buddies white Jeep at the same time and it was annoying as hell to cover up all the white paint.

dnbearcat I dont think there will be any issues with the heat, i drove without carpet for a while and the bare metal didnt get 'hot' just warm, makes for good foot warmers.I just did my liner on saturday, and its my secondary vehicle so im letting it cure up for a week before i put the seats back in.

I just drilled the bolts all the way through and will retap with new threads or do the bolt and nut idea. One problem with that is the factory nut is welded on there and would be pretty hard to remove. If it doesnt come off the bolt will just have to be longer and itll be a nut tightened to a nut. Not ideal but i guess it is welded on there. Ill probably work on it this weekend so I will keep you posted on what i do.

It seems less warm than the paint.

fishinVA That looks awesome! I'm thinking about doing that to my wrangler. My carpet went a long time ago, and although I don't have any rust on my floorboards yet, there's some exposed metal that I'm worried about.

Do you have any issues with the liner getting really hot, since the insulation underneath the front carpet is gone?

Lol exactly, as far as I can tell, its completely rust free underneath. When you drilled out the bolts were you able to salvage the threads to put new bolts in? Or did you just drill it out and put a nut underneath?

dnbearcat broke 3 bolts too huh, thats kinda funny in a sad coincidental way. wonder why they are doing that, my underside is virtually rust free and they didnt appear to be that bad. Maybe weak bolts in the 99s or bad threads.

05GT-O.C.D. I had no problems on my 98. The backseats were easy. The front seat rear bolts were a little more difficult due to the fact that they're in a position for more water (rust) exposure. Still, none broken. Sorry 'bout the difficulties.

dnbearcat I guess i shouldn't have been so against it, could have just been a bad brand of painters tape. It wasn't the usual blue kind, but the brand i tried (can't recall name) didn't want to stick well to the metal. Overall i think i was just jaded by the cheaper kind. Since they are so cheap i say try one and if it adheres good, go for it.

Has anyone else had any problems with the bolts on the rear seat brackets?

I have been wanting to do this for a while, ever since my carpet got wet and now smells like mildew....

My jeeps not paid for yet though and even though I'm rough on her I haven't got the courage yet to line the inside, I want to so bad though. I'm jealous.

Regarding the tape - I used the painters tape and had NO issues with it. Another forum member used masking tape and it didn't work so well for him as there was penetration beyond the tape. Since I do reccommend the painters tape and you don't, I'm curious as to why.?

Another Herculiner Sucess

I started on this project based off all the feedback from the people on this forum who have done this. So i thought Id show you my attempt. My wheel wells were in great shape so i left those and will just throw some wax to it to protect them over time. Plus i think the black and tan are kinda cool together. It took me 2 days to do in total. 1 day to prep and the other to apply/dry/apply (2 coats). And tomorrow I will touch up whatever didn't get hit.

What I bought:
1 gallon herculiner kit (advance auto $50), rough steel wool (lowes paint section $5), Acetone ($6), Cheap wire brushes for the little bit of rust around my drain holes.

Scrub well with steel wool. Use wire brushes to remove any dirt of whatnot from the welds and other tight spots. Clean well with acetone. Take your time taping seams and lines. The more single pieces of tape the better (stuff can creep in the seams of the 2 pieces of tape. Then apply and let dry.

CAUTIONS!
i have a 1999 jeep and has little rust, but when removing the rear seat brackets i did have 3 bolts break off on me and couldnt get them out for the life of me, finally had to drill them all the way out and will have to retap the holes. this hung me up for an extra 3 hrs. (pictured below)
Wear gloves! i failed to do so the first coat and spent 20 min scrubbing my hands with acetone. The smell is pretty rough so do use a ventilated area and if at all possible let it set for a few days (top off or windows and doors open) to let it air out and set up properly.

Have extra for touch ups when your done. Use acetone and Q-Tips and an old rag to clean up any spots after final application. I waited about 1.5hrs after i put the last coat down to remove the masking tape (do not use painters tape, use regular masking). It was still pretty tacky so be careful but this will allow you to use the acetone and tips to clean up before it hardens.

I think the final product is nice and would recommend!

P.S.
I posted a while ago about the seat extenders, i didn't install them due to wanting this first, so when i reinstall the seats i will picture and post the seat extender results.
