former USMC I believe my carb is a 1986 version on the six cylinder motor. I haven't taken it off but does anyone have an opinion as if it is worth rebuilding ? The kit is only 14 bucks. I was looking for a f-15 carb but haven't located one in operating condition as of yet.

cheapjeep71 There is a guy on E-bay that sells a complete MC2100 & MC2150 carb kit all for under $300. He also has excellent tech support. Those computer feedback BBD carbs suck. They are only good as paperweights Weber carbs are over-priced & sometimes touchy. If got friends that are constantly adjusting them to keep them running.

kksfish I'm with Buckshot on this the hardest part of the MC2100 change over was the throttle bracket fabrication!!!

MonkeyHouse I'm pretty new to the whole Jeep thing, but I rebuilt my Carter BBD over the weekend and I really don't see what most people complain about. Taking a small bit and drilling out the venturi tubes was the best move I ever made, runs great

buckshot500 How much do those Weber's cost again?

My MC2100 was installed & working great, for about $100.00 including everything!
If you were gonna do a rebuild, why not rebuild the easiest carb ever?
These things are $25.00 from the junkyard. The rebuild kit is $15.00 The adapter (Mr.Gasket #1937) is $20.00 & the 10" Edelbrock air cleaner is $20.00

My math leaves $20.00 for tax & other little doo-dads like new throttle return springs. (Always use two, in case one breaks!)

Fweaky Loosen the four mounting bolts. Grab it firmly and remove it from the manifold. Open the lid to the trash can and slam it. Then install a webber.

tlrrob1000 Definatly would like to go to the Webber..... Oh ya I live in California! Too many buttholes!! The way I see it as long as it passes smog why can't I have an after market carb
So yah if you don't have to worry about emission inspections then change it. As for me I have 2 carbs and when boogers up I swap it and build the other.

drox I have a 89 yj also, with a carter carb. it`s a pice of junk. I have a Quadratec catalog been looking at buying a webber. I know nothing about carburetors.I am all ears on any info.

buckshot500 Sorry to tell you, but that carter BBD is not worth the effort.

MC2100 from a junkyard is the way to go. Gather as much info as you can by googling it & bookmarking the best links.

If you decide to do this & have questions, ask them in this thread.

I will try to answer them if I can.

tlrrob1000 Your rebuild kit should have come with directions. 4.2? If it is a 4.2 I will look for the directions from my kit. Let us know.
