xxxxxxxxdavem we have an 08 rubi with a 3 " bds suspension and ive added 1" spacers to that for 4" total. were running 35" pro comp mt. if you go 3" id run 33" tires.
4" go with the 35's. thats my .02 worth.

I had my transfer case linkage break out in the middle of nowhere. A 60 cent plastic bushing. TC was stuck in neutral. I now have three bushings in the glove-box because a bushing in the glove box is better than two in the bush??

iamagolfspaz Waiting to hear more about 4 inch's of lift, 35-37 inch tire's and stock drive shaft length. Would love to hear from someone that had their shaft break while somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. Especially with an automatic.

bgjhnsn I have Pro-Comp 4" lift with 37's. Added 1" body lift and no rubbing.

The folks who sell the lift do not recommend going with new drive shafts. I'm going to go with that. If the drive shafts that came with the jeep are not up to the job, it won't take long to know that. I don't think that is the case. Worrying about getting the shaft on the shaft is something that is done based on anecdotal about shafts breaking not people's worries.

iamagolfspaz Look into adding about another $1000.00 for new drive shafts. That's if you can install them yourself.

WhiteRAVE ya i think that is a good idea, i don't like the idea of spending money unless i have to.

however, I am worried about the drive shafts i was reading another forum and they talked about the lift may cause a lot of strain. I definitely don't want to break it.

they said i would need a double cardin U-joint shaft. So i may look into that.

I'm in the same boat with you thinking of an OME lift for this coming summer. I plan on getting the Rockfather kit. They say it contains all items needed for the lift. With the advice I have gotten by reading posts to exhaustion, I am going to install the kit, and try it out. Then see what else is needed beyond that. I plan on getting some protection for the differentials when I get the kit because with that much lift, they become one of the low flying vulnerabilities that begs for protection. I'm sure there are other vulnerabilities that will need looking into but that seems the most expensive one and exposed one if damaged.

CruserBruiser I ll tell you this, if you go with the 3" lift you'll be wishing you had the 4" lift.. I have a 4" Pro Comp lift with 35's on 17" wheels and i think its perfectly proportional. The ride is just as good if not better than stock. cross wind is nothing to worry about cause its not gonna flip you over or anything, unless you drive through a tornado everyday. As far as the 37's are concerned I think they would be to big for a 4" lift.

jcf It is 4.5" - I am not sure if 37's would rub. The site with the RFL is www.rocky-road.com they are here in Utah & that article I posted was off their site. If you call them ask to speak to a manager as some of the sales guys aren't very helpfull. The Jeep in the jk4dr Rockfather lift section is actually mine before I bought it. They made a mistake saying it has 36" tires, it has 35's

Crappy springs are the bane of the Jeep 4x4 world..... prevalent, horrible, tough to identify. Advertising budgets and flashy colors in pictures make great camoflage for them. They'll take your dream toy and turn it into something no one wants to ride in, and you curse every day you failed to research properly and wound up on those stiff big brand name springs.
Spring manufacture is a fine art which very few companies take the time to engineer properly. The largest names in the business are guilty of it.... mass producing cheap springs that ride brutally stiff, but sell well because of the insane markup that most 4x4 shops get on those springs.... meaning they really push those big name kits. As a general rule, the less markup on a spring there is, the less likely you are to see it on your local 4x4 shop's shelves.... which is why you rarely see Old Man Emu components. They are the best quality parts, but not the most heavily advetised. At Rocky Road... we look beyond hype and really do take a different approach to our customer's Jeeps. A better one...

There is no question about it, the world knows that Old Man Emu springs cannot beat for ride quality. The only complaint we ever see on them is that they are not too tall which poses a problem for folks looking to run taller tires, but who still want to enjoy their daily ride in their nice Jeep. OME avoids the more 'extreme' scene by manufacturing mild lift springs. Old Man Emu may not be the most well-known to 4wheelers, but in our industry they are undisputably the best.

At Rocky Road, we do like to push things a bit taller and so have developed a 4.5" system with the Old Man Emu springs for your JK. We have combined the OME springs with additional components to offer a fully properly engineered suspension system that not only rides far better than anything else on the market, but can handle up to 36" tires. You got it... a full 4.5" suspension featuring Old Man Emu springs. With some fender trimming or a small body lift, you can go even taller on your tires.

Almost as bad as those poor quality springs nowadays are some of the "long arm" kits that are on the market. Many of these kits do not allow your front axle to cycle up and down in the manner it was designed for which is why they handle so spooky at highway speeds. Long-arm kits are cheap to make, very profitable for sellers, yet can be scary at highway speeds. Those systems are fine for vehicles trailered to the trails. The the rotating castor on these systems is what makes for the spooky handling... picture your Jeep turning like a skateboard. They do look super cool in a picture in a magazine, but most of us need to have reliable and safe transportation daily, which means skipping long arm kits. Even magazine tech editors agree as noted in numerous articles on the subject. Your life is worth more than 1-2" of extra flex on the trail.

An additional and VERY important feature you should note on our lifts is that we have Medium and Heavy Duty kits available for the 2door and the 4door. How many suspension manufacturers do you see with a one-size-fits-all kit? Pretty much all of them. Does it make sense to you that one spring fits every Jeeps's needs? Of course not. Its because they simply didn't want to do the necessary engineering to allow Jeepers to custom tailer a lift to their specific needs.

At Rocky Road, we understand that not everyone runs a winch, or has a full fiberglass hardtop. Some of us go doorless. Some use our Jeeps for towing. We can mix and match the springs as well if you like by calling in your order. Our spring rate selection allows you to make sure you are getting the exact ride you need for your usage. The other suspension manufacturers... apparently think we are all identical.

Each Trailblazer kit includes:

Old Man Emu replacement front and rear coil springs with spacers for a full 4.5" of lift. Simply put, the best riding spring on the market available.

Long Travel shocks. A great soft riding RRO Engineered shock designed for the medium weight of the Wrangler. Rides like a dream onroad as opposed to other STIFF shocks.

Adj Front Track Bar. Anytime you go over 2" in lift, you must replace the front track bar to keep proper front axle alignment and handling.

This is one of the reasons I have been eyeballing the Rockfather, approximately $1000.00 complete. With the extended shocks. I'll most likely get the rock protectors for the diffs too.

yj-genral i read an article on the nth degree/ AEV 3.5 and 4.5 lifts and actually tested with 35 MTR's drove better than stock on a solemn course but they arent cheap, basic being $1300

jk'n I'm looking at Rockfather by OME, not too expensive and claims rides better than stock. So far the scuttle butt out there is that the OME is a good lift. My purchase window is late spring early summer. So far I'm zeroed in on the Rockfather. Could have my mind changed by the time purchase time comes around.

Jk lift 3" or 4"

I am doing some research on the lifting a JK but i had some questions.

I was thinking of putting 35" tires on a rubi and it seems a 3" lift would be adequate.

Here are the items i found that are needed:
3" coils,
bump stop extensions,
longer shocks,
rear brake line extension brackets,
longer rear sway bar links (factory links can be installed up front),
adjustable front track bar

rear track bar relocation bracket
adjustable rear upper control arms
adjustable front upper and lower control arms
new double cardin U-joint style drive shaft
regearing to 5.13

However the cost to do a 4" lift compared to a 3" lift really seemed minimal just couple of extra items.

So my question is this will a 4" lift on 35" tires 17" work and drive fine and not look gay?

Also a 4" lift will run 37" tires (that just seems huge too me) is it a big difference, are 37's the way to go?

Also this will be a DD, but only about 40 miles round trip.

Also what about wind, there is bad cross wind twice a year about a week or so at a time where i live. Is this a concern i need to be aware of with 37's or 35's?

The reason i am asking is it is quite an investment to put on a good 3" lift so is it worth the extra cost to just make it 4" with the option of putting 37"

Hopefully that makes sense. I am still a noob in the jeep modding arena. Also am i missing anything else to do the lift.
