Jeepsr4me Wait till you in Army then go to the DRMO auctions for active duty personnel. They have them all time and only active duty people get to go. Get a old chevy truck and get the axles from it. When I was in I got a couple of them. Turn around and sold one to help fund the swap. I got 2 of them for 600 bucks. Both had bad engines. the 60 and 14 bolt is a good combo. 4.56 gears detroit locker in rear. If you lucky get a m1028 and it will hav powertrax LS up front. You will have to get a dana 300 case to get the drive shaft on the right side but they cheap and every where. Just a suggestion. But with those heavy axles you got to be running 37 and up tires.

Jeepsr4me Where you going to be stationed? Different areas require different setups.
And some bases require you to pass local laws as far as height and smog..... Even though your home state does not. You could take the money and get a new Jeep cause Chrysler is offering good deals right now. Newer platform with alot more aftermarket support. I got a 94 and 07 model and the 07 is by far the better ride.

I've thought about it but decided it was a waste of money when there's a v8 in the works.

I'm guessing u meant ditch the D30. Its occurred to me but I don't know how much that will cost or where to look for an axle of the same width with the driver side drop. Where should I look a waggy or maybe a scout for 44's but idk.

big orange yj Oops I forgot about steering. I've got it written down on my wish list though. How should I do it buy a hi steer kit or do it my self. I'm in favor of option 2, but I don't know where to start as far as fabbing a knuckle. I do plan on HD tie rod and draglink though. The traction bar slipped my mind but I do plan on that. I need some advice on brakes. The 8.8 will give disc's in the back but I know that's not enough I'm guessing bigger rotors, better pads and bigger booster. As for the lift size, the way I see it is go big or go home, espescially with my group. I'm the runt of the 4x4's but I do have a jeep where as most of them don't so I can do more but its mainly a height and tire size thing. "If ur not first ur last "

4Jeepn What ya going to do for steering? Also your going to need to fab some kind of traction bar for the rear... and do what you want, but 3.5" lift springs in a SOA to me are a bit much.. most folks use new stock type springs or less than 2". Also I would look into a brake upgrade.. stopping 37's is no small feet....

any suggestions

So this past week I joined the army and found out that I am going to receive a pretty decent signing bonus and decided that I'm going to fix up my jeep the way I think I want it. This is a rundown ofwhat I plan on doing.
1) Soa with my 3.5" lift springs
2) Ford 8.8 rear with 4.88's or 4.56's
3) Beef up my front end (any suggestions? I'm thinking super 30)
4) Stretch it out.
5) Gen-right boulder tube fenders and stretched full corners.
6) Sye and cv driveshaft
7) Belly up skid plate. ( Where can I find these, haven't really looked much though)
8) A set of 37x12.50 IROK radials
9) Stronger front drive shaft
10) More power.... Thinking maybe a new carb and cam and whatever else I think will help.

Well that's about it, that I can think of for now. O ya and some new seats(probably corbeaus with a set of 3 or 5 point harness')
So that's what I got so far any suggestions or concerns. I would love to hear them. And I plan on doing all of this within a 2 week time frame once I get started. Which will probably be next summer after jump school.
It's my dd by the way. So nothing too crazy.
