tlrrob1000 Chances are you have crap n your jets and in your idle circuit. Pull them out and clean them. Just make sure everything goes back in the same.
I even took some real fine sand paper to the metering rods and jets. Youll see residue on them when you pull them.

Ah i see. The fact that it dies completely when it does kick down (when i give it a bit of gas), does that mean it's not working right?

YouTube - 89 Jeep Wrangler YJ Laredo Carter Carb 2BBD Idle

Hey all. Hope everyone is having a good weekend! I'm trying to clean out my idle tubes on my 89 YJ Laredo. Before I took the venturi out, i made this video of something i've always noticed kind of odd about the choke plate on my Carter carb.

I made a quick video on YouTube.

In the video I'm showing how when the throttle is pushed down this plastic piece falls. I then move the plastic piece all the way UP and let the throttle go so that it is held in place by the screw and push the choke plate down. When i start up the jeep the choke plate moves into a more open position but it is idling very poorly. As I push the choke plate down and close it, the idle is better and it ramps the RPMS up. I then loosen the plastic piece and push the throttle down and the plastic clip falls where the screw can no longer hold it. After that the jeep completely dies at idle.

I do not know what this plastic piece is!!
