BILLYWALTON i put a picture of one like it as my signture....following the shifter handle down the rod...where it gets fat square looking is where it came apart.

BILLYWALTON that is not like mine...it comes apart more like where the last curve is ....like level with the black plug thing....it is hard to explain....my shifter rod is not that long it connects about half way down kida like if you cut that shifter in half and joined it ....where it joins the bottom half it slides together before it gets to the linkage at the bottom...kinda has a square hole.
i will figure out how to post a pic...if nothing else i will email you a picture.

Odd is he The rod from the T-case slides into the hole at the bottom of the shifter.... and then their is a allen key bolt that holds it in

It's a bitch to do if you have your skid plate on and only yourself doing it... I've done it though

BILLYWALTON It appears to be metal.I tried to slide it back together but I couldnt keep the little metal clips back...I figured there must be a trick to it...
as I am looking at the transfer case shifter it only appears to have three little pieces of metal in it ...And the shaft coming up from transfer case has a groove that gose all the way around.

AzTJ They should be just the hard plastic clips, if so, you have to push REALY hard to snap them back on.

I have a 1990 wrangler 4.2 automatic...well today i reached to shift into 4x4 and the dang thing come loose.
I climbed under it and noticed that it has a clip up in the shifter that connects it. my question is how do I get this thing back together...I already put it back in 2 wheel drive.
I am in Carrollton Georgia if anyone is close.
