hannahuffster Seems like a lot of work to paint the wheels black [clean - sand - prime - paint - clear coat] when you can buy the 15 x 8 crawler steel wheels for $45 and the 15 x 10 for $52. Just a thought...

bthor76 Black belongs on luxury cars not jeeps. Black wheels are even worse. There's absolutely no contrast (black tires on black wheels). It makes no sense to me. I like color on Jeeps. I like the yellow, red, green and blue ones. Some chrome is fine as an accent. I wouldn't want to trick it out with chrome hinges and stuff (too ghetto) but a little bit adds interest to the eyes.

Newbie here, so please excuse a repetitive question....

Where would one go to get rims powder-coated? Body shop? Industrial coating facility?

I was thinking of just painting my nasty chrome ones myself, but the thought of a more professional (and better looking) job is intriguing.

Ghosthiker Currently have gray interior/seats and top. I plan on a black-out, too.

That is the look I like too.
I have an Black '87 w/hardtop tinted windows, tires-31x10.5 black side out on black 15x8 rims. Not a lift yet.
It does throw alot of slop up on body when roads are bad. But the trade off is worth the beefy look. looks like a black bulldog coming at you.

I tried putting up a pic, but can't get it to upload for some reason. I'll get it, or get my daughter to do it.

irontom The black rims are sweet. Getting mine powdered next week or so, I can't look at the chrome things. Its about $50-$100 to get it done for all the rims. Sanding included.

By the way - any one saw the program where they sanded the M1A1 Abrams? If its good enough for a MBT then it its good enough for my Jeep.

vintageagain don't forget a clear coat on the rims it'll help protect the paint. For best results try and see if you can get them powdered!

It's not that i don't like chrome. Chrome just doesn't seem to me like it should get muddy. A Jeep should get muddy. Therefor Jeep+Chrome just doesn't seem right to me.

Then again i also think chrome, and those crazy bright colors like solar yellow, orange, ect. look odd on vehicles unless it's expensive or fast. Have you ever seen those bright yellow cavaliers or civics with chrome wheels? They look ridiculous..But that's just my opinion.

kaycee83 Agreeded! I'm embarassed for Jeeps with chrome. I had terrible chrome accents on my YJ when I bought it. Grill, around headlights, ect. I was painting it all black on my way home in my head. Then again my YJ is red. I just lightly sanded then primered and painted. I also had terrible rims I painted black too, worked pretty well and I just touched them up every so often. If your not sure about it, paint one first without sanding just to get an idea, if it's terrible just remove the paint. Never too much black!

cab may give it a whirl thanks guys.

Jeepsr4me I just painted my chrome rims. Centerline Hellcats, It can be done. Clean them up real good with soap and water. Then wipe down with thinner. THEN sand lightly with 150 grit. then wipe down again. Then use a self etching primer, put on 2 good coats. Then paint with want ever color you want. I used a hammered black cause my rims were a little pitted and this hides it well.

jgano23 no, but any chrome is too much chrome .

do a google seatch for blacked out wrangler and see the results. it will give you an idea of how it will look.
