legitposter My jku with 6K miles is chirping after the engine gets hot. It's coming from the water pump area and sounds like the youtube videos of it.

I'll go by the dealer when the sound is consistent enough.

dennisofthebeach Mine is in the dealer as we speak, took it in chirping at 2500 miles. they had no idea, said leave it for a day and they would start taking stuff off till they found it, uhh no way dude. Drove it to Colorado for 5 days of off roading including 14 hours + in 4 wheel low then back to KS about 1500 miles roundtrip with no problems. Now it howls all the time and is to say the least very embarrassing, "nice jeep dude, sounds like crap." SO... story was the same, now on backorder (2000+ units) so they put it back together and said it is ok to drive??? I blasted them on the survey online and the next day they had a waterpump for me. So I took it to them and of course, they don't provide a loaner, a rental was offered for $10 a day, spoke to sales manager and he gave me a used POS off the lot. Now waiting for the repair, going to request a radiator flush as others have and to see the old pump to see if any visible damage. Very sad that they are not getting this fixed and many are still for sale with the old pumps.

IORRichie Mine has been replaced and the system flushed. Quiet as a mouse now. There was a belt slap noise that is also gone now too. Kinda like a tick noise. 2 birds with one stone!

Only took them half a day before I had it back again!

I normally hear it when I start it up in the morning and when I leave from work. By the time I get home, either I don't hear it or I've tuned it out. Anyway, squeal went away for a week and didn't mention to the dealer that I had a previous problem. If it doesn't squeal for me/them, then they're probably not going to do anything about it.

That was last Thursday. Yesterday crank it up and the squeal is back, and louder. (sigh)

Is it just me or does it do it only when cold / sitting for a while?

When I took mine in to the dealer it wasn't squealing. They had to rev the engine up to near red line RPMs a few times, then it came back hard core. Then they scheduled my appointment.

County98 I actually have a small squeal/chirp starting at idle when it gets hot, so I hope I'm not one of the unlucky ones.

THAT said, keep forums in context. For every single person that posts of a water pump, leak, etc, there are probably 2000 units that have no issues at all.

jay02921 wow! i dunno guys, i get it that the stuff is covered under warranty but i just went to test out a 2013 and specd out a 2014 at the dealer so nice, i don't have time to deal with major warranty issues. for example i have a pilot with over 100,000 miles oil changes, tires, brakes that's what i have done...i was hoping for the same thing with a new wrangler but making me worried now???!!!

Metonymy Yup, it's a factory thing. Had mine replaced two weeks ago.
07-30-2013 09:37 PM
NavalAviator No off reading or stressful driving. Seems like a factory defect.

And oddly enough I got a call after posting this that the water pump had arrived courier from another dealer. Tis being installed tomorrow. I just hope they flush the system like I ask in case it is sand from the casting procedure.
I just dropped mine off for a new radiator and water pump. They promised to flush it all.

I haven't taken mine off road. So I would say factory issue.

LMT Rubi welcome to the club. 2012s and 2013s have the same water pump issue. I am getting my second water pump on my 2013 JKR pretty soon

NavalAviator My 2013 Rubicon is in the shop as we speak getting a new water pump. 4500 miles and it sounded like it was sendin morse code..

I have the same thing. My dealer found sand in the water pump. Thinks casting sand is in radiator, now replacing radiator and water pump.
07-30-2013 10:26 AM
IORRichie The dealer is currently looking into a loaner.
07-30-2013 10:12 AM
landi jeep shouldnt warranty repairs come with a rental? if dealer refuses, check with your ins company, you may have a rental policy through them. may have to pay 20 or 30 per day.

IORRichie
water pump

Couple weeks ago I noticed a squeel/hum/chirp/whistle, so with knowledge from here I had a look with my stethoscope. Diagnosed water pump brought it to the dealer told them water pump was bad, they kept it for a day to have a look at it. They aldo diagnosed water pump.

Been waiting two weeks so far for a pump... its on back order.

Noise is getting louder, dealer said its fine just watch the temp gauge. I said while it may be fine it's loud and embarrassing. Makes my 2013 sound like a old jaloppy.
