|603TJ||Also the backspacing on your wheels makes a huge difference when upping your tire size. With a 2" lift, I was still getting tire rub with 31" tires- until I bought some Soft 8's with backspacing. I can lock my wheel out now and the tires clear everything.|

I just recently ordered a 2.5" ome lift. You can pick between light, medium and heavy duty springs depending on your accessories. A 2" lift is rated 2" without accessories (winch, heavy duty bumper, hardtop) etc... my 2.5" lift with a bumper and a winch only gives me 1.5 to 2" of lift. Now I've seen people with 33" tires on a stock suspension, it's doable but if you hit a crack in the road your going to eat your fenders. I ordered the heavy duty ome lift because I have accessories but if your running a stock jeep with a softtop you will be able to go larger than 31" tires but you might get some rub on the trail when your disconnected. OME is just saying 31" tires are your safest bet to guarantee no rub or problems. your going to want 3-4" of lift to safely run 33's off road just MO. Also keep in mind when you purchase tires most are not the exact size they say.
I'm no expert so I'm sure someone else will have some good info for you.

I must be missing something about lifts
I've been researching lifts and various suspension mods for my '02 Sport, and I've about landed on OME lifts. Here's where things go astray. I'm running 30" stock tires at the moment. Somewhere on this site, I've found info that says I can run 31" without a lift or any suspension mods. Ok, I''m down with that. Then I run across this. Quadrateck OME 2" lift which states you can run a maximum of 31" tires with the OME 2" lift.
By my thinking, if I increase the hight from axel to fender by 2", I should be able to run a tire that is 4" larger diameter than stock. Now I figure that that probably won't work 100% because of flex and angles of the tires at full tilt, but 33's should clear and never rub. So why would they say that 31" is the max tire size with a 2" lift?
My basic plan is to wear out the tires that are on the Jeep now, then add in disco's and whatever lift is required to run 32's or 33's. It's a daily driver so highway manners are a must, but I would also like to have proper trail manners.
This isn't meant to be a thread about "which lift to run" but hopefully more of a discussion as to the hows and whys of how a lifts works, and how they come to there lift numbers.
