nmdriver When I regeard my jeep to 4.56 from 3.07 I didn't have any intention of installing a locker but since I needed a new carrier anyway it actually worked out really well.

You will hardly notice on the road and offroad it works very well. I am at my 500 miles (more like 550) and I am due to chg out the oil.

If you are not doing serious hardcore wheeling but still want a very capable rear end hen go for it.

does it matter if the front (dana 30) or rear (dana 35)
or needs to be dana 44 for the TT?

dbbd1 Have not had a chance to take it to play yet, but I have the true trac installed in the rear too.

Exactly right. In that situation, you can assist the Truetrac, Tracloc, or even an open axle by pulling the parking brake on a few clicks so the spinning tire encounters more resistance. That added resistance helps the engine develop and send more torque to the rear axle which is (always) split 50:50... so the tire on the right then gets more power sent to it which can help get you moving again. The more resistance the engine works into, the more torque it develops which the rear differential then splits 50:50 to each side. That added torque developed by the engine because of the added resistance created by the parking brake is seen equally by the side with more traction so it can help keep/get you moving.

In fact, all LSDs work that way... by coupling the resistance from the side with more traction to the side with no traction. That boosts the torque generated by the engine so both sides of the LSD equipped axle get more torque. The added torque delivered to the spinning side is of course wasted. So LSDs don't help by "transferring" torque to the other side like many think, they help by increasing the torque sent to both sides by helping the engine work into more resistance by coupling the spinning side to the non-spinning side.

IslandTJ I forgot to mention that the TrueTracs are stupid silly to maintain and hold up well to a 33" tire. Since they are similar to the Torsen gear driven limited slip, the TrueTracs do not require any limited slip additives upon installation, and during normal exchange. I also forgot to disclose that the TrueTracs are NOT lockers and will NOT perform like a locker. If you raise a tire completely in the air, you will lose traction. Additionally, lunchbox lockers are cheaper than a TrueTrac, as the TT is a complete carrier replacement unlike the lunchbox locker.

IslandTJ I currently run TrueTracs (TT) front and rear and I am very happy with them and the performance they afford my Jeep. IMO they are transparent, when I regeared and had the TTs installed, I thought my shop forgot to install them - I could not tell they were there. After my break in period, I took the Jeep out and that's where I noticed a huge difference in traction and felt the TTs in action . For a daily driver, and if you rarely lift tires or crawl big rocks - I recommend the TrueTrac. I made it through the following small rock obstacles and the TTs did their job as expected. I never had to winch out in any section of this particular trail:





Also, during the winter - the TTs are great on snow and ice covered roads .

[Edit] I just saw you're from WA. From my experience, the TrueTracs are spot on for Pacific Northwest trails and conditions.

ktraver97ss I dont have personal experiance with them, but I have always heard good things from the guys over at gmfullsize.com.

Jerry Bransford For that type of driving, I don't think you can do any better than a Detroit Truetrac. I used to have front and rear Detroit Truetracs in my TJ and for that type of usage they are ideal. It's also pretty much "bullet proof" and a well proven design.

Detroit TrueTrac

Does any one have experience with a Detroit TrueTrac in the rear diff ?

I'll be doing a lot of driving in deep snow and rough logging roads, plus this is my daily-driver, not s serious off-road Jeep (yet !).
