Not to take anything away from our Wrangler Forum, but have you checked out the G503 forum? Nothing but restored military vehicles there.

That'll be a tough one John, I work for a defense contractor and no cameras are allowed on the plant site.
Tell you what, I'll try to swing by outside the gate this weekend and get a pic next to the "Air Force Plant 44" sign (ya, google it and you can figure out where I work).

LOL, I fixed my exhaust leak and bought a new carburetor (the old one had a crack in the body) and HOLY %&$@, it runs great!

I'm going to take it to work tomorrow.

Gord P Having never built or restored anything myself, I can only imagine the sense of satisfaction that you must be feeling. For it to be something with a historical significance must make it that much more special. Again, congrats on your accomplishment and good luck with any extras you decide to do.

Thanks guys and ya, lots of good feedback. I'm also having fun showing off the Studebaker engine. I found out it was a popular upgrade in the 50s when people were buying surplus Jeeps. Also, its good to be able to hit 60 MPH when the max for a stock engine is 45.

Beastmaster Well, after 9 long months and lots of visits by the brown truck, I now have a road worthy 71 year old Jeep. I can't really say that I am done because I still have a few more things I'd like to do to it. I'm thinking about making it into a radio Jeep. I really like the last picture of the engine when compaired to the one in the first post of this thread.



Here are the particulars:
  • The chassis, front fenders and windshield are from Willys MB number 205586 mfg 1/25/43
  • The body is number 77989 was made by the American Central Body company in June '43
  • The engine is a 1950 158.5 cubic inch, flat-head 6-cylinder Studebaker.
  • The military tires are made from Coker/Firestone
  • The replacement parts are from various sources from NOS replicas made in the Philippines.

Modern day modifications I have made:
  • The original MB had 1 regular brake light and 1 blackout brake light. I replaced the blackout one with a second regular one.
  • I added seat belts from an Air Force cargo plane source the original had none.
  • I turned the front blackout marker lights and rear brake lights into turn signals also.
