JK owners are not "kinda like Hummer owners" because we pay the JK price. Is it so horrible to have new people join the Jeep community? It is such an exclusive club only for pre-JK owners? There isn't a single person in my family or extended family that have ever owned a Jeep (CJ, TJ, etc.), so I was the first. I wasn't educated about the wave until joining this forum. I had no idea it was a tradition. I waved because I'm a friendly person and thought it was cool that Jeepers were waving at me.
On July 4, 2011, I leased a JK. *GASP* *OMG* leased! No! I wasn't sure I'd like driving a Jeep, so I leased one. I fell in love instantly. I turned in my JK 10/8 and was stuck driving my Camaro for two weeks before I ordered my new JK. Yes...ordered it...paid the "high" JK price. My Camaro was $40K so the price of the Rubicon wasn't some sort of sticker shock to me. I'm not a Hummer owner. I, like the majority of you in this forum, like to go off-road...get muddy...I believe that you don't wash your Jeep, you wheel it through a river!
There are only so many pre-JK models out there. Are we not supposed to grow the Jeep family? I guess the whole tradition of being a Jeep owner and a waver is supposed to die with the last TJ. Y'all are being snobby. To me, THAT's "kinda like a Hummer owner[s]".
It is up to us (ALL of us) to maintain the tradition. Wave at all Jeeps. Eventually they'll all learn to wave back.

Because if they didn't this would be a forum full of nothing but senseless wave threads.
Hence the official wave thread.

My new girlfriend loves it as well.First time in the Jeep she saw me waving at them and figured I knew them.So I told her about the Jeep wave and know she rolls down the windows and waves at other Jeeps.
Funniest one was another Jeep was flipping off a car for what ever reason and cursing them out.As we are passing by them on the street my girlfriend rolls down the windows I slow down to hear the commotion and the fellow Jeeper in the middle of cursing some one out smiles and waves back then continues pummeling insults at another driver.

|bluedevil1||The first Wrangler I bought was a 93 from a Jeep dealer in Tacoma. My salesman was obviously a veteran on the crew. He spent 15 minutes talking about the Wave, and how important it was that buyers of the new one with the "square headlights" continue the tradition. Thought he was a bit over the top at the time, but I've been doing it ever since!|

I did my part to pass the jeep wave onto a new owner that didn't know about it. This guy that works for the landlord at work just bought a 15 jku Sahara. I gave him a few pointers about the hard top and a few other things but I told him the most important thing is to wave to other wranglers/cj's no matter the flavor. Hopefully he listens.
Here in the greater Boston area I get a better than 50% wave return rate. I usually get blown off by tj and yj drivers but its fine. It's their loss. I first learned of the jeep wave back in the late 90's when my cousin bought his 89 yj.
So if you see my '14 Sahara around Boston just wave. It won't kill you I promise

Around here, everyone waves. It's kind of annoying. I live in a small rural valley and it's like a code or something. And it's pretty common to wave once you've left pavement. Out fishing, hunting, wheeling, almost everyone waves. Jeeps on the highway...not so much.
My best wave was when I pulled up across an intersection from a YJ on 37's, full roll cage, no top or door. As we crossed, I waved and the dude didn't expect it. I he kind of jumped and then did a quick wave as we passed. He looked shocked to get a wave from a then nearly stock JK.

|chucky cheese||Saw a guy in a topless jeep who's toupe' was waving. Does that count. I gave him a thumbs up and he gave me a rug up.|
|Yesterday 09:38 AM|
911 owners used to wave all the time, not sure if they do it now though.
Between the bike and the Jeep I've been waving since I was 17 years old, which is too many years to talk about.

|marktaylor||I got waved at today by a guy in a construction truck. I'm guessing that his other vehicle is a Jeep.|

I don't wave... at all. Think it's dumb. Most times, others don't wave at me, but sometimes they do, and get nothing back from me.
And also: my jeep is muddy. Very muddy.
I've owned Jeeps for a while, and been a part of the culture, but the whole wave thing... I guess I'm just not in to it.

|MyWhiteRubi||I always wave it's a habit I can't catch myself no matter what I'm driving or riding in. I wish more of the JK'ers knew about the wave. I think I always get waves back from older jeepers but the JK'ers are hit and miss.|

|InfoJunkie||I missed doing the wave for the years I didn't have a Jeep... It feels good to be back in the saddle again and I'm glad people still wave. The kids and my friends and family get a kick out of it too.|

I also did it when I owned my Harley. (Harley riders wave to each other).
Also during my Corvette ownership, (they also wave to each other).
So it's, not just isolated to Wrangler Owners!!
It's just acknowledging, a common interest of Ownership, but in a nice friendly way..........

I felt foolish at first, too. I realized the other day that I am disappointed how quickly it gets dark because I can't wave to other Jeeps in the dark. I don't know why, but it is fun.
My wife still makes fun of me, waving obnoxiously to parked and empty Jeeps. One day, someone will be sitting in one of those parked Jeeps and she will be mortified.

Jeep Wave Contagious?
When I first got my Jeep, I told my wife about the Jeep wave and felt kinda foolish at first waving to other Jeeps with her in the car and having probably only 40% wave back. I figured she was always thinking it was kind of silly.
However, she just told me that the other day she was driving her car (an Explorer) and saw a Jeep and started to wave at it before she caught herself realizing she wasn't in the Jeep.
How cool is that?

|JMO69||I usually only wave at CJ,YJ,Tj's not the Cherokee SUV types. I would wave back at them if they waved. Usually only CJ,YJ, and TJ's wave to me though.|

I have been driving my jeep for the past 3 or 4 days, however today I took my 335i. I waved out of habit this morning. Luckily the guy in the fully modded jeep didn't notice!
