adkjoe I have never once locked my doors on my jeep, I don't see a point. Since most thief's don't know how to use a zipper leaving my doors unlocked saves me a cut window in the soft top. I don't leave anything valuable in the jeep, even if I locked the doors all that keeps people out is a zipper or a box cutter, it's pointless.

irontom Hm, I do not bother to lock the doors. Usually there is a big empty space where the roof should be. But I do agree that a locksmith should be able to change the tumbler setup in the doors. Got that done on my old VW after someone tried to break in and messed up the tumbler.

jgano23 i agree with everyone. call a locksmith. it will probably be much less expensive than the dealer and no VIN needed.

Habs33 Thanks...I'll check with the locksmith. The dealership was only going to charge about $ hopefully the locksmith isn't much more than that. If so, no big deal. Locking up the jeep isn't a huge necessity....since I keep it in a garage and only drive it once a week or so.

Thanks again.

birdhunter Sure any lock smith
will cut keys for your door
even those mobil vans
Thats what I did on another jeep
When I was driving around I saw a guy sitting
in his lock smith van eating lunch
I asked him if he wanted to make some cash
under the table 30 bucks and I had keys for both doors and tailgate
not sure if it was a great deal but well worth it to me

jeepers92 Lock smith might be able to re tumble the locks to get 1 key to work for all, Im not sure if they can on car doors but worth asking about!

turdhurdler Jeep doors come with locks??? Try calling a couple local locksmiths. I am sure someone there can assist with re-keying your doors for you.

new doors, can't get keys made

I recently bought new half doors for my YJ, but the previous owner did not have keys. The local dealerships are able to cut keys if I supply a VIN number, however they will only use the VIN number on my title (since it proves I'm the owner)...and the doors obviously have a different VIN number.

Any help on what else I can do, besides changing the locks (which would cost a lot more I'm guessing)? Not sure if anybody else cuts keys without checking this.
