terrible2 I believe the average rate is about $60 per U joint. If I can find a place that does it for $30 ill have them do it, but otherwise Ill do it. The only reason id rather have a shop over me is that I tried to change out my axle shaft U joint about a month and a half ago and what shouldve taken 2 hours turned in 11 hours when the yoke ear of my axle shaft got bent due to some guy pounding a hammer on it.

Other than that its really simple, learn to do it yourself = )

mrcarcrazy Heck even cheap beer.

For going to a mechanic to have it done, I'd say you didn't get ripped off. however, next time you need something done, you might look around for other "enthusiasts". Many are willing to help. Some of us get a kick out of wrenching.

burton160w Yea, in comparison to other deals and mechanics, I wouldn't say you got ripped off. But you certainly could have gotten another Jeeper to do it for cheaper for the cost of parts, pizza, and some decent beer.

HyperBuzzin I stopped by a Dealer to see what they'd charge for doing just the front U-joint on the rear drive shaft.
They wanted $200. $90 of which was just for the $13 U-joint??!!
I did it myself and I guess now I owe myself the remaining $187 from what the Dealer wanted.

joemd60 I feel for you, I still cannot get past my $800 bill. I had my front axle seals and u-joints replaced recently on my 04 and I thought that was a bit high.

distortedtj Cost me the price of the U-joints and a half hour. Easy to do.

I have had ujoints replace before at shops though and it was nowhere near $400. Highest I ever paid was $62 to have 4 ujoints installed on a ol' chevy. But I lived in farmville.

jdhallissey If you were closer to another jeeper I am sure they would of helped you out. Teached you how to do it. It is nothing hard. Just takes a little effort. Little time. That is around normal I got qouted 350 for just my front u-joints. They needed to be done real bad but I ended up just doing them. Post up where your from and maybe somebody close can help next time . Pizza goes a long way.
