jimmyd LOL I texted my wife on the way home (at a red light) letting her know I needed to get gas because my gas light come on. I have never bought a vehicle that didn't have a full tank. Pretty much a WTF moment.

DaPeeps I picked my Jeep and drove off with it that same night. They said they didn't have enough time to go get the tank filled up, but they gave me a voucher to go to a gas station right down the street from the dealership and get a full tanks worth of gas. I had no trouble redeeming it, and of course filled it with premium

Gonzos Wrangler My dealer told me that they only put 10 gallons of gas on new cars now, not a full tank anymore. Simply another way of making more money...(like if they don't make enough already!)

JimMariner I always ask while doing the paperwork on any vehicle I am purchasing. I know somewhere in all their numbers I am paying for a full tank anyway. I never accept a vehicle new or used without it being topped off.

When I asked on the purchase of my USED 2012 JKU, my salesman said it was being filled as we spoke. If the statement was true or not, it was delivered to me Freshly Detailed with a full tank of gasoline. I was even given a walk though on programing my radio for my phone's bluetooth. And demonstrations on how to use the 4WD, Freedom Top removal, and slamming the doors, cause it's a jeep thing.

I don't believe a dealer gives you anything for free. It's all there in the numbers somewhere on every deal.

spackler I picked up my 2014 JKU with 5 gallons in the tank. But I expected it, so I dropped off my trade-in with the gas light on. I say we're even.

My very first new car, custom ordered just for me, was delivered to me with an empty tank. I had to drive to the first station, and fill it up.

I learned. For every new car, I have them write into the order, full tank of gas and no dealer plaque/sticker on the back.

Great point the more you get the more they made--The hold back money is their guaranteed profit margin which is based on a percentage of what the value of the vehicle is. All dealers pay the same for the vehicles so it is up to the dealer to determine what the bottom line ---never get caught up on dealer invoice --the true cost of the vehicle is below that--they just let us know that price so we all feel good about the deal.

ClayR A new diesel truck has 5k of markup but a Dart has $100. Just an FYI for you the doc fee you pay will pay for the fuel. And as a dealer, if we aren't making any money, we are not giving away free gas.

spinlock The dealer is in business to make a profit and we all pay for a lot more than a tank a gas, but detailing the vehicle and filling the tank has been a service courtesy for a long time. Given the recent markup on Wranglers to an average sticker price near $40K the least dealers from a corporation (Chrysler) that was circling the drain 4 years ago could do is fill up the tank.

The factory incentives and advertising fees you pay as part of the purchase price fund dealer gratuities. It's just another line item on the balance sheet. Cost of goods sold.

If you order a vehicle its generally a pass through to the dealer.. it briefly hits inventory on the books.. lot taxes don't need to be paid - and in turn, the dealer collects hold back, factory incentives and kick backs from banks, maintenance plans, etc.

You're not getting anything free when you buy a new vehicle.. everyone in the value chain gets a slice of your dollars.

If you actually believe you're receiving free gas, keep dreaming.

Could be or it could be that you over paid and got screwed out of a tank of fuel also

insylem Ive purchased two vehicals from dealerships. 1 Chevy, 1 Chrystler. Both were nearly on empty.

kmrtnsn The last four new cars we have purchased, a VW, a Toyota, a Subaru, and finally a Jeep JKU, all from different dealers and all came with a full tank of gas.

legitposter I got about a 1/4 tank when I bought my wrangler. And ya know, I couldn't care less. If I was really worried about that small amount of money then I definitely would not be trading in a perfectly good vehicle and definitely would not be trading it for a Chrysler product!

southpaw75 Ok maybe I should have clarified. The dealership where I bought my 14 gives a full tank of gas on all new vehicles and a half on used vehicles.

PecosRiver Even though I own a gas station, I've received over a dozen tanks of gas last year from the dealership. Every person that I send to my salesman that buys a vehicle, new or used, earns me a tank of gas. When I bought the jeep I received a tank too.

peanut09 I use to always get a full tank and never asked. This time they gave me not even half of a tank and when I asked they said they can't spend the money to fill them up anymore.... Thought that was a bunch of B.S kind of pissed me off and wanted to tell them to keep it. I bought a 4 door Rubi 10A not like it was some used car for less than 10K or something.

donmeca2020 that sounds ridiculous..... unless this is an American car thing as of this year, i have never heard about such a thing of the dealers cheating you out of a full tank of gas.

different brand but i purchased my yaris brand new last year january, it came with a full tank of gas, freshly washed up, and i didnt even pay for the OEM floor mats...

If Jeep is really doing something like this, that is just low.....

Thanks for making my point. They guy that complains about NOT getting that "free" tank of gas that hes really PAYING for in all actuality - (in fact your financing that gas - brilliant - ) is not smart enough to just ask for that $50 off the price of the jeep. So to come here and cry about it like your getting ripped off or bad customer service is a joke.

The business model you describe payables coverd under recieveables....uhhh YA thats with any business. All business payables( cost of doing business ) have to be covered by receviables or - guess what -

YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS!


So ya I take that bottle of free water everytime I go to the service bay for that oil change.

I paid for it so I am drinking it.

barefootsouljo When I bought my first Jeep (2010 JK Sahara), it had 5000 miles on it and it had a quarter tank of gas. Kind of surprised me, since all the other vehicles I had previously bought, new or used, I drove off the lot full. Last week, when I was dealing to buy my 2013 JK 10A Rubicon, the salesperson specifically stated a trade-in price + full tank of gas. So I drove off the lot with a full tank, but had paid for it by making sure the one I traded was full too. In a way I won, because the gas up there was lower in price up there by 4 cents and I filled up a block from the dealership.

FXnut Picking up my JKUR tomorrow morning. Dealer is charging me $50 for fuel, but is providing gas receipt.

I'm ok with this as the explanation made sense to me. Jeep used to reimburse the dealers $1/L for fuel, but with the fluctuating price of fuel dealers were getting screwed (according to the dealer) but it makes sense to me. I don't mind paying for my gas. The dealer did throw in slush mats and a cargo mat because my Jeep was delayed a bit, and I'm already $7802.40 discount, so I wasn't going to quibble about a tank of gas.
