If your transmission fluid level is okay, it can be simply a unique quirk to Jeep automatic transmissions that I've experienced as well. I have always had sticks and our other Jeep is a stick. But, I have a 2004 Unlimited which only came with an automatic in that introductory year. I know what you're talking about with the hard shift when cold. Over the course of time the tranny seems to have settled in and it's as smooth at this tranny will ever be (I have about 15,000 miles on it). I live in the Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland and have found the overdrive is also a bit of a pain as it is constantly seeking to down shift driving the terrain. When it does that it is a very hard shift. I solved the issue by simply turning off the overdrive unless I'm on flat roads. Might give that a try as well.

you can always over fill. Pull out your manual and follow the instructions for checking the fluid level. You should let start it and let it run for awhile plus you always check the fluid level in nuetral.
Give it a shot and see what's up

|Gussdog||Hi, guys thanks for the replys, I checked the trans, oil lever while it was cold and it shows to be way above the mark where it says level when Hot, could it have to much fluid in the transmission, I know there is a cold mark and hot mark on the dip stick. Thanks|

|khenderson||yeah, definitely start with the fluid levels to make sure they are right. if that's not the problem then i'd take it in to get it checked out. especially if it's under warranty.|

|MR.CLIFFORD||check the fluid. Wouldn't be the first time I read about a new jeep missing lube.|

Something doesn't sound right, but I have no experience with an automatic and what the quirks of it are. Better get it checked to be on the safe side. Maybe you can get them to toss a 6 speed manual in there for you.
Congratulations on your Jeep. If you get a chance, put some pictures up of it. I'd like to check it out.

New Jeep Owner
Just bought a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Golden Eagle Add. The problem is that when the automatic transmission shifts from 1st into 2nd it hits real hard, does this the first few miles or until it warms up. Havent returned it to the dealer yet just would like to know if there is something I might be doing wrong. Thanks for any replys
