Salton Sea Walker It's headed for some hard times.. If nothing is done (soon) it will (mostly) dry up.. The big issue is the toxic dust storms from the exposed playa will reach Palm Springs and potentially, the Inland Empire. I share a lot of this info, along with more pretty pictures and updates on my planned 116 mile walk around it on my facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/SaltonSeaWalk

I am curious about the Salton Sea. I saw a doc on it and was amazed about it's history. How is it doing? Sonny Bono was a big supporter but I hear it has been on hard times and the water is being sold off. so it may not exist in the near future. The doc had the marina, restaurants, nightclubs ect. all closed up and the people that are left there are in limbo about the future. What is the current situation?

Zwack-n-Irish The beach by our house on a bright summer day.

Beautiful bright red leaves at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Portland, Oregon.

A former room mate of my eldest son owned this handsome Iguana named "Dred". Dred had run of the house, and enjoyed hanging out in the window sill. As Iguanas go, Dred was social and fairly friendly.

Beautiful photos of regal birds! There is a pair who lives here in Lincoln City. I see them fly over our yard daily (they often land on the beach to eat creatures that wash ashore--someday I'm going to be there WITH my camera, to catch it on "film"!), and therefore I only allow my Chihuahuas out with supervision .

Zwack-n-Irish Photo showing 3 horses from the carousel in Salem, Oregon. It may look antique, but it was actually built in the early 2000s. The animals and other trim (canopy, etc.) ARE hand-carved and painted wood. The badges on the top canopy are Oregon-centric, showing iconic scenes and the state's official animals and plants. It is displayed in its own building at Riverfront Park, and is very popular with children and families. I didn't even know it existed until 2 weeks ago :-).

Portland has its own, truly antique, restored carousel. It is displayed at Jantzen Beach, if you live in the area and have never seen nor visited it. For carousel lovers, both are beautiful examples of the craft.

Zwack-n-Irish WininUtah, that is an amazing photo, and the epitome of "Autumn". Lovely! It reminds me of places in far eastern Oregon, near the Snake River Canyon area. Thank you for sharing that :-).
