|morphious||yeah i just got a 231 agian and i'll probably just keep the little thing now i just need to fix the other one and i'll have a spare just in case i ever break the other one|

|TheTJRod||Try and find a NV241OR as it already had 4:1 gearing and has no slip yoke. May need to pick up a new input shaft though.|

|yardfab||I have to give credit to the little 231. Mine is still trucking after all my jeep has been through. Granted now the T-Case and the Trans are my weak link since the axle change, but with a SYE and a good CV drive shaft, you cant go wrong for now. D300 are cool, but for the money go for the np231 like RednekYJ said. Heck later, get a atlas or do a doubler if you want to be custom. It's all in fun..|

NP231 Transfer Case SYE Kit Jeep TJ YJ WRANGLER 88 - 06:eBay Motors (item 190334739355 end time Jan-10-10 16:31:49 PST)
Do you have a case yet? There is one for sale down here for $50.00. I'm not sure how far up in WI ya are.
|12-18-2009 09:21 AM|
|morphious||yeah i think i will probably do that. anyone know a good place to get an sye i might as well d it before i put the case in. and I'm doing a four inch lift in two months so i might as well get it out of the way now.|

Thats a good idea but then you are openin up a whole nother project that will cost more money....This guy was just looking to swap in a t-case.
My advice to the OP is find a np-231 and bolt it up. It will hold just fine. If you want to to a dana 300 swap pick one up and start working on it now. Get everything you will need so when you do go to put it in your not runnin all over looking for parts. Make sure you get a 23 spline np231. There is a 21 spline that goes into the 4 bangers.

|punkafi888||if you wanted to keep your d30 in the front (dont know who would) then do the flip kit, if not just get a chevy d44 hp, really really easy to find. try fining the ford d44 hp! impossible.|

|morphious||ok so defiantly not going to do the 600 dollar one that's for sure. but i don't know if i it would be worth the time or not to try and flip the 300. i really want to but money may be my down fall again and the fact this is my dd right now.|

|YjMopower||Yea i read that one , orange it was pretty amazing big price difference from 600 to 20 bucks.|

$20 Dana 300 flip kit - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

|YjMopower||heres one of the kits i plan to go with if i ever make up my mind between the 300 or np231 Down East Offroad: Transfer Cases|
|12-17-2009 01:06 AM|
That is a clocking ring. That would work if you had a passenger side differential. IF YOU DONT THAT WILL NOT WORK!!! You cannot flip a transfer case over and expect it to work!
|12-17-2009 12:23 AM|
|morphious||so i guess i dont get it the novak site just shows a clock ring and not anything else when i click the flip link but that should be what i'm after right|
|12-16-2009 07:34 PM|
and to big orange. Yes there really is not much difference. If you have a d35 in the rear that is your weak link not the tcase.

|big orange yj||
Custom skid plate? According to your link there's no modification needed.
Morphious, you are obviously set on the 300, and I don't blame you, if I could afford it I would already have it. If its what you want just do it. I would look at Novak Adapters for the flip kit also.

|RednekYJ||Really the D300 will not be that much different than a 231. If you did a posi-lok in front you could run 2wd low with the 231. It's going to be quite a bit of work to put the d300 in a YJ. you will also need a custom skidplate.|
|12-16-2009 06:06 PM|
|RednekYJ||Yes. The driveshaft would be just as costly as if you did a SYE to a 231. The front DS should work although I'm not sure on the u-joint size. and like I said notching the tub so you could shift.|
|12-16-2009 05:48 PM|
|morphious||well twin stick was one thing i wanted and the fixed yoke is also nice. but i just need to get around an idea of what all the extra stuff to make it work would cost me. i didnt see a price on that kit u posted. so i'm takeing it that longer rear drive shaft will be a must though huh.|
|12-16-2009 05:14 PM|
|big orange yj||He probably wants it for the strength, size, cost, not to mention twin sticks. Or atleast that's the reason I want one. Plus its a lot cheaper for the 4:1 kit than a 231. If I'm not mistaken yjwes don't you have a 300.|
|12-16-2009 05:07 PM|
dana 300 is 2.62-1, gear driven, and cast iron case, way better than the 231. I'm not sure about the 231 ratio. lemme look real quick.
np231 is 2.72-1. The difference is really not that much to make a person notice

A clocking ring is for "leveling the T-case. A dana 300 will bolt up but the case will hang down toward the passenger side. A clocking ring is like a wheel spacer that will let you turn the T-case up or down. You can not just turn a case upside down. lube will not go to the right places.
This is a flip kit
|12-16-2009 12:19 PM|
|morphious||well that's the clock kit from advance adapters will flip it and the linkage shouldnt be to hard um i have the six cyl|
|12-16-2009 12:02 PM|
|RednekYJ||Unless you got a passenger side pumpkin in the front you will need a flip kit. Do you have a 4cyl or 6? The shift linkage will need to be custom unless you want to notch a bigger hole.|
