tarheel Haven't been on in a while. I have had an XJ and now a wrangler. There are advantages to both. I personally like my wrangler (could be the midlife crisis causing that though). Either way you'll love either. Just remember with a wrangler you don't have a lot of room to carry stuff (perfect excuse when travelling in groups). Check us out at We have plenty of Johnston county folks

NCJeep Thanks guys, for all the info I'm pretty excited about picking me up a jeep.

blkrubi88 I personally prefer the wrangler! Like the other guys said, go with 4.0 if possible! There's nothing wrong with a soft top. Mine came with a soft top, I purchased a hard top to use in the winter months. Good luck with with ever jeep you decide to get and welcome to the forum!

Seawalker Welcome from Western NC, I'd go with the Wrangler. Soft top is just fine. that is what I have. Like McDavis said 4.0L is a great choice.

MCDavis In this area, a hard top is nice during the winter but not necessary. Make sure you get the 4.0 engine (straight 6) if at all possible. Other than that, just make sure you know the history and check it out from end to end and side to side.

I personally would suggest a Wrangler, but the XJ's are nice as well.

New from NC.. Have question about Jeep purchase

Hi everyone, I'm from NC and considering purchasing a Wrangler or a XJ. I am looking at 1998 - 2000 year models and was wondering what your guys input was I love playing off road, but I am also going to be using this for daily transportation for the next 2 tears until I get outta school. With that said when I do purchase one I am defiantly going to do some mods lift, rims/ tires, etc. Is there any suggestions one verses the other, problem areas, etc. The particular Wrangler I am currently looking at is a soft top any downsides to them also. Thanks in advance for your input.
