I have had my '10 Rubicon 6 spd for about a month now and really like it This Jeep is underpowered by about 10-15% if you ask me, one would think that a simple exhaust mod and a few other simple/cheap tweaks would do the trick. An extra 15-30 hp would go a long way. This is a Jeep and is not supposed to go fast, in fact it is quite possible that this is done on purpose....but I agree it does need a bit of a boost for the highway passing/hills etc.
This is kinda hilarious...I have had my share of cars over the years, from supercars all the way down to the original Suziki 4x4. My favorite was my old '87 VW Syncro 4x4 pick-up truck, and this thing was so underpowered I had to time my passing from waaaay back (like 20 car lengths) just to get by. On the other hand I have taken that damn thing into spots where a mule could not get in/up.

|vincan||It's been two weeks now and I quess I am getting use to the 2010 Sahara. The engine power doesn't seem too bad now. I've been using it to go to work 30 miles in one direction and getting about 17 mpg traveling at 70 mph. Of course its all highway miles. Its a lot better than the 11 mpg I was getting on the H2. The thing looks so pretty just sitting there is hard not to love it. I'm amazed at the quality of the paint job as well as the fit and finish of the body. Who said Americans can't make a quality product.|

Super. Thanks to all for the warranty input!
I'm fine with it around the city and most times. On trips through the hills the constant downshifting and engine noise can become exhausting, though...

Besides, you don't know slow until you've caravanned or wheeled with Unimogs.
I wheel with these two guys often and they call me a gazelle and they're elephants...

It's a jeep, it will get there when it gets there. Slow down and enjoy the ride is my motto!
Besides, the ticket money you save will help pay for gas!

Part of their approach is to discourage shadetree mechanics, mod-fever, and any other activity that blemishes their perfect design.
In fact, it's illegal to mod your vehicle like we do in most other countries ---- and the manufacturers love that...
So, ask yourself that question again.
The short answer is that each dealer will look at it differently. Some will cover you and some won't. It all depends on how they word the work order and what their dealer-culture is all about.

|Ozarkharleyguy||I just got an 2010 and I understand the concern over the lack of power. But partly I think its good to remember you can't have your "kate and edith too." This wasn't designed to be a hot rod. It does what it was designed to do very well. My Mustang GT with nitrous was terrible off-road and on rough terrain where the gearing was low. I complained in the Mustang forum about how bad it was off-road. So I imagine there are a few things you can do to make the Jeep a little quicker but remember it may not produce the results you seek and there is a trade-off for everything you do. Rots-a-ruck.|

Stumpy with Trxus MT and stock 3.07 gears:

AT tires, not aired down, and lockers.
the stock yellow TJ at first just drove the crap out of his rig and made it. the H3 and the stockish JK both could've benefited from some MT's or at least some decent AT's, at the bare minimum airing down would have helped a bit as well. honestly the owner of the stock burgundy JKu could have spent the money on that front bumper on something a little more useful like some better tires. having the tires he has, he wont be able to make it anywhere that bumper would be needed.
back on topic. regearing will make all the difference in the world. I have a friend with an 07 2dr RUBI and he never had anything positive to say about how his jeep ran until he regeared it to 4.88's. even on 35's he says he can drive it like a hot rod and get the rear tires to break loose in turns.

Regearing counts for EVERYTHING, when you increase the tire size, over stock issue
Lockers and a lower crawl ratio counts in mud/snow/shale (rubicon)

This is a short video of us and some friends last weekend. See if you can guess which JKs were reageared, especially the big red one toward the end.
Gears make a huge difference.

Lack of Power
I had a Chevrolet Tahoe before I got my Jeep. The Tahoe sounded cooler with the 5.7 liter V-8 but it was speed limited to 100mph so it wasn't any faster than my jeep is now. I can live with the lack of horsepower because the Jeep can get me through places the Tahoe just could not go; and it is way funner to drive. I don't know what a Hummer drives like but I have no complaints on my Jeep. I do have the factory tow package so I don't know how much of a differance the tow package gears make.

|vincan||i guess the problem with my new jeeps is that the V8 in the H2 had 125 more HP and I can feel it. As I see it either I get used to the lack of power or trade the vehicle in and lose $5000 or more. Nobody has offered a suggestion on how to increase the power other than changing the gear ratio.|

Keep the vehicle's strengths in mind though; this is what it excels at:
