|jeep27190||Im gunna go with the skinnier tire but im gunna get a 2nd set of rims so I can have one for the road and one for off road. Plus im thinking about getting the 16" rims because theres more variety of tires in that size.|

And OP, I'm guessing the 295/15 was a typo if you want 16" wheels....

10.5's actually will provide better grip than a 12.5 tire because your putting more pressure down on that footprint. the only reason 12.5's better is because the wider tread has more ability to "wrap" around an odd shaped obstacle.
with your current situation I would say stay with a 10.5 tire. the biggest downfall to the 33x10.5 size is there arent many options in that size compared to a 12.5 wide 33"
if it wasnt for the fact my jeep already had 33x12.5's on it when I bought it. I would be buying 10.5's next, but that means I would need to buy 5 of them instead of just 4.
another bonus of the 10.5's is they are slightly lighter and they have slightly less rolling resistance compared to a 12.5 so its entirely possible to get better mpg with a 10.5 over a 12.5. of course with a modified jeep mpg really isnt going to get much better because its crap to begin with

|bmaan123||I'd go with the 10.5's right now im running the bfg km2's 33x10.5x15 and they completely destroy the snow...im a college student too and these were completely worth it|

|jeep27190||I forgot to add that both diffs are open and the front diff is a dana 30 and the rear is a "sigh" dana 35 if this makes a difference to anyone.|

Tires 33x10.5 VS. 12.5
Hi everyone, I have a 99 TJ with a 6cyl, 3.73gears, 5spd, 4'' lift, 15x8 rims with 4'' backspacing and right now I'm running BFG At 31x10.5s. The rig is a daily driver but since I'm in college, I really don't get to go wheeling much(twice at the iron range in 09). I want 33s'' but my question is the 12.5'' tire, is it worth it? I really don't go mudding with it and every where I go, I see 12.5'' tires, but since its a daily driver (and we have snow), instinct tells me to run a narrow tire. But since there's a limited selection for size 10.5'', should I just get the 12.5'' tire. I'm also thinking about going to a 16'' rim and running either a 285/75/16 or 295/75/15. I'm looking for some opinions or guidance for my situation. Any help would be appreciated.
