|RedWrangler||LIke PBR says above, check for anything that's obviously come loose, like the steering box. Follow the whole steering system from the wheel to the tires and you'll hopefully be able to pinpoint where the movement is coming from. Then you can decide if it's a repair or replace job.|

|cmslaughter||Ah right sorry, I am not vehicle savvy haha, Its tilt steering, Correction on the year 1989 (sorry just sold my 1988, that year was on my brain) Jeep WRJP, umm does this help at all?|

Sounds like the steering column has gone bad - for the 88 YJ you should be able to find a used one in the junk yard I would hope for less than $200 but I don't know. In any case you can order new ones too.
Then it is a matter of swapping it out. Use the manual - don't cut - unplug & you should be back in business in a weekend.

1988 Jeep Wrangler
Hey guys, Im new here but I thought i would ask my question. My steering wheel has been getting really loose lately, moving up and down mostly however, now It moves side to side and up and down, to the point were I believe It needs to be fixed. I bought a Jeep Wrangler repair book, so that I can start attempting to fix It, anyone have any ideas, or cost estimates If I am unable to fix or find the direct problem? Any input would be helpful Thanks!
