mike_b_ar I have the NP207 "Command Trac" (oooohhhh) transfer case. Allegedly the worst one available. It was standard on the 87 model. I've found the part I need for $25. Thanks for all the help.

NAVYCHIEF there are two things that are important when getting a new one. tire size you run and length of the gear. look real close when buying the gear. and compare prices. some folks want $100 and some sell for around $25.

Lancem On the New Process cases there is a round metal tag screwed to the back of the case above the fill plug, it has the model and serial number stamped onto the tag.

mike_b_ar How do I find the model of the transfer case?

Lancem Since the gear is in the transfer case it depends on what case you have. That is not a NP231 case gear which is probably what you are seeing on line. Take a look and see what model transfer case you have and order one to fit it.

scott howard if you have a 87 with the stock ba 10 trans then just order a stock gear and that should fix your problem

Speedometer gear help

The speedometer in my 87 YJ wasn't working, so I began to investigate. The cable seemed fine--could turn it and get the speedometer to register. So, I pulled the speedometer gear and I think I found the problem. As you can see in the pic, it's all torn up. I went online to order a new one, and none of the pics for new gears look at all like this one. Does this look like the right one to any of you?

I'm thinking, maybe a previous owner replaced the original gear with one that didn't fit right and that's why it got all mangled. I don't know for sure. So should I order one online that says its for an 87 YJ, or should I try to find another one like the one I pulled? This is off a 5 sp. BA 10/5 transmission. Does the automatic transmission look different?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
