I like the look of them too...
My friend works with a tire company and his company kinda remade the baja.. not sure what it looks like though but he said he might hook me up for maybe 75$ a tire.. I said hell yeah hook me up with about 20 of those lol! (just kidding about 20) but I might wait and go with him..
Ill see if I can find a picture of the tire..

Yeah but for the TJ's conversion there is ALOT more stuff than compared to the YJ... brackets, ecable, all that junk... but I got pics of the tires...
Said they were a little dry rotted and I was thinking about taking my body lift off because I don't do THAT much offroading... and besides, it IS my DD.. but any points on taking it off would help maybe a guide or something.
And I know the rims will not fit, they are off of a Chevy but I'll just use my old ones.. but from the pics, the tires look in good shape to handle about 30-35k miles..

The Dana35 to Ford 8.8 conversion can be done for less than the cost of one of my tires, if you know how to do everything yourself and for around the price of 2 tires if you have it installed at a shop.
I got my 8.8 at Nevada Pick-A-Part for $140 with a $20 core deposit. I had a friend help me pull it out of the donor Explorer. Who would have thought something off an Ford Explorer would be useful? Rofl! With the 33x12.5's on it you can't see a width difference or a difference how high my rear sits.
You should beef-up your steering gear to the aftermarket 1-ton stuff. Mud tires are too expensive to drive around on with a bad alignment.

mudin, that's a nice YJ. I wanted to do a 8.8 conversion awhile back but my tires are BALD. The front tires have half bald and some tread (alignment, needed a tie rod) and they are all just dry rotted.
I heard back from the guy with the 33's with a picture.. They look nice, I will post it up on here later today to get yall's opinion on them.

This is my cursed 1988 YJ. I just rolled it to 80,000 original miles this week. Unless you need NEED new tires right now, I think you need to put in a Dana 44 or a Ford 8.8 first. My Jeep has never ran anything bigger than what I currently have on it, 33x12.50R15 since it was bought in December 1987, but at 75,000miles my Dana 35 went ka-chunk. It was 3.55 ratio and the ring and pinion both lost teeth. I tried to find a Dana 44 at first but after realizing they are almost impossible to find I went with the Ford 8.8 and I couldn't be happier. I believe it is 32 spline opposed to 28 spline on my Dana 35. It is far smoother than my Dana rear end ever was, I gained rear disc breaks, and it is nearly as strong as the Dana 60. Just make sure to have the tubes welded if you put one on. The Ford 8.8 is an extremely easy swap as long as you can get the hardware from the donor Explorer. The stock Jeep ebrake cables can be reused on YJs, not sure about the newer jeeps. The Ford 8.8 comes in most factory jeep gear ratios so you can swap the rear without re-gearing the front and you can tell what gear ratio a rear axle is as well as if it is open, limited, or locked just by the axle code on the Vehicle Identification Tag inside the driver door jam. Beats crawling under everything and trying to read tags.
I did my rear end in December and I bought my new tires this week. My originals were BF Goodrich M/T KM. I replaced them with the BFG Mud Terrain KM2s this time and I couldn't be happier. I went for a run outside of Vegas to test them out and They did great! They didn't chunk out the first time I put them to the rocks like my original KMs did, they didn't float as bad going through standing water, they don't throw rocks, were awesome in the mud as expected, and they also do good in the snow. They borrowed a few features from the BFG Baja tires to make the KM2 a more All-Terrain/Off-road tire. They are also much smoother and quieter than their predecessors....I can here my radio on the freeway now. lol!

33's on a 4.5 RE Long Arm with 3/4 in. spacer.
I'm in the same boat - could fit 35's, but don't want to push the D30 & D35 axles.
I'd also highly recommend the BFG M/T KM2's - love them...super quiet on the road and amazing off-road.

|debruins||well personally I would go with 35's. I have 35's and a D35, im working on a 8.8 as well. I just know it is back there and I winch out at any sign of having to spin my wheels really fast.|

|debruins||your gearing has nothing to do with whether or not you will break something. I have 3.73's and it is fine, the problem is if you have a D35.|

|Bignuke||Nice. I found on craigslist 4 33" bfg all terrains for 300$ he said they have about 70-80% tread left... Haven't heard back from him about the pictures... I was hoping for some m/t's but oh well. lol|

I like it. I run smaller bump stops and have more flex till I stuff them. I still can rub the 33 on the fenders front and back. Also the jeep is happier with the 4.0L, 3.73 gears and a 5 spd. I still get around 17 on the freeway at 75 and 11-13 around town depending on how heavy my foot gets.

I have noticed that the 33's on about 5.25" lift have much more clearance than the 35's... That's what I like, but it just looks kinda weird with the big gap, but I might be fallling into it.

Haha that's funny about the Mustang.. I got in a wreck awhile back and ran in the back of somebody and her trunk and everything was gone. I only had a little dent on my fender from where my fog light snapped off and hit it.. lol

|cavediverjc||Yeah, they're Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials. I've had them for almost 2 years now. I love them. They wear well, offer awesome grip offroad, and balanced extremely easily. I have a hardtop, so I don't notice the tire noise too much. I know it's not too bad, since I have the top off from time to time in the spring/summer.|
