|jordorunway||Here's a bunch of us from SJOC at slick ford/Pickett.|

Sorry for such a late reply, it's been a bit since I've been on here. If you have Facebook, look up Somerset Jeep Owners Club, most of us are on there now. Pretty good group of people. We set up everything through that group now, all the rides and stuff. Were gonna try to go to strawberry soon but not sure when. I'm broke down right now with tranny problems, had to put it in the shop lol. But yea look on Facebook and join the group.
Anyone is welcome to look up the group and join if their around the Somerset/Monticello/London area. We welcome all jeeps lol. Also if your not around the Somerset area there's other clubs that may closer to you, look up Kentucky Jeep Owners Club, I think the charters right now are Louisville, Lexington, bowling green, and Somerset.

|KA_Wrangler||Sorry to dig up an old thread. I live in Albany and work in Monticello and I would love to ride some of these places with you guys if you all meet up any time soon. Lived here all of my life yet I've never made it out to Slickford, Strawberry, or the Pickett's. I also have a full detailed map of all the trails at Slickford with all the overlooks, caves, ponds, cabins, state lines, and roads labeled if anyone is interested in a copy! I ride dirtbikes a lot and a good riding buddy of mine who lives in Monticello gave me the map so I could take my bike to the trails, just haven't made it out there yet. Around here we all usually ride two places called Coal Bank and Poplar Mountain (or Savage Mountain depending on which side of the county you grew up) which are right on the border of Albany and Monticello. I would love to ride with a group of Jeeps!|

We went right, but not very far at all.
There was a car parked on the gravel trail on the left (I think there was a funeral going on back there) and we couldn't get by.

I'll post in this thread next time we get a group to go wheeling down there again and you can tag along if you want. It's usually on a Saturday around 12 or 1pm we go.

We went out to take the Jeep down there, and the wives were freaking out since nothing is marked. We saw about 5 minutes of trail before turning around haha. Party poopers

Anytime on the weekends you want to go Wheeling, just hollar at me, if I am not busy with something here at home, be glad to meet up and go Jeeping. Especially places I haven't been around here before.
The first weekend of every March, my buddies from Ohio come down with trucks, 4x4's, quads, etc. and we have a weekend of 4 wheeling and messing around here on the farm. Usually hit Slick Ford, but we are always in the hunt for a new place and/or new guide. Maybe you and your buddies can join us this coming March, and have a big time.

|KentuckyMike||You probably did pass me, I travel 90 often going to Somerset. I hadn't logged onto here in awhile to see my messages. I get them through my new phone now. And yes, Jeeping alone is not a good idea, especially with no winch and prob. no cell service. Sounds like your transfer case may have a bad synchronizer in it. I think the TJ has the same 231 New Process Transfer case as the YJ's do.|

|jordorunway||Anyone else in Somerset or around/near? Trying to get some people together to ride next Saturday the 24th. Going to strawberry again.|
|04-14-2013 01:45 PM|
Dang that is cheap for the rear bumper.... If I was wanting a tire carrier I would jump all over it. After yesterday I think I may need a new transfer case, it won't stay in 4lo and yesterday I tried holding the handle in place with my hand and it popped out and it sounded like it stripped the 4lo out lol so there's that lol, still have 4hi though.
I passed you yesterday and waved at you, it was about 6pm and you were heading toward Monticello and I was heading toward Somerset, I was in my jeep but it was covered in mud lol. I went out and played around strawberry for a little bit, didnt do much since I was by my self, had people in the jeep but no other vehicle (broke my own rule there lol never wheel by yourself).
|04-14-2013 08:20 AM|
|KentuckyMike||Those mudholes will clog the radiator fins in some cases. That may be what was causing the overheating issues. Thanks for the compliment on my Jeep. I just bought it the beginning of February this year. Been working on it every since, getting it the way I want it set up. Winch is next, then a motor rebuild or swap out the 4.0 for 355 sbc I have already. Like the idea of the factory fuel injection though vs. a carbed sbc.|

Ok let me know when. Got my rear bumper on yesterday. 4wd.com has a Smittybilt rear classic rock crawler bumper with a Class III rated receiver hitch on sale this month for $99.99 and free shipping. That what I just put on the rear and it is a very well built bumper w/1/4" mounting plate and comes with frame backing plates too.
Now time to save for a winch.lol
|04-10-2013 06:34 PM|
Sounds like you had a pretty good Sunday too lol. You have a pretty nice rig! I looked at that bumper a while back but decided to go with a stubby, I'm looking to start modding my jeep next month. Ill for sure let you know next time we decide to go riding, no idea when that will be though . For some reason everyone's jeeps decided to run hot except for mine lol. Probably get everything lined out over the next few weeks, we will go riding again, not sure where though.
New tire will be here tomorrow, I really need to get a spare lmao.

Looks like a good place to go wheeling for sure. I bet you all had a great time, Hate I missed it. I was getting ready to leave here when I got a call from my buddies, saying they had a hub bearing go bad, so I had to take my gooseneck trailer to Georgetown and bring them and the Explorer back here to fix it. So my Sunday was shot. Maybe the next time.
These rocks around here can be treacherous to a tire, to say the least. We used to blow out quad tires on rocks all the time over at 909, Livingston exit on I-75. Slick Ford isn't so bad on tires and not very rocky on most of the trails, at least the last time I was there it wasn't. LOL I did get my new rock crawler front bumper yesterday and got it mounted. Still waiting for the matching rear bumper to arrive.

Pictures from Strawberry.
|04-08-2013 05:31 PM|
|jordorunway||It turned out to be a pretty good ride, had a great day with the exception of blowing a tire lol. Put a pretty good gash in the sidewall. We was on the last trail out and I looked away for a second and grazed a rock and split the side wall open. Ill post up some pictures and stuff later.|

|04-08-2013 06:34 AM|
|KentuckyMike||Also, there is a trail that goes down the hill a little peice at the overlook in your picture. That trail takes you to a cave.|
|04-08-2013 06:33 AM|
|KentuckyMike||That looks like Trumans Overlook to me. If you had went the other direction, instead of going to the Trumans Overlook, the second intersection, turn to the right and stay on the dirt/gravel road. It will go through some fields then come to the woodline. You can take that trail to the Overlook above Pall Mall, TN. That is one heck of a view compared to Trumans Overlook.|
|04-07-2013 06:11 AM|
I went down Lizzy Sharp road today and stayed to the right were I would usually turn left and go back to
167. Found the trails you guys talked about on here. Looks great and I can't wait to go back, when I have more time. Here's a pic. Of the overlook

|jordorunway||Slight change in plans, instead of 10am on Sunday it will be 11am. Sorry bout that.|
|04-01-2013 11:40 PM|
|jordorunway||Ok sounds good, i'll pm you my number and you can let me know if your gonna make it. There is a gas station on hwy 90 called Hicks, its right there at the turn off for rd 1568, i'll be sittin there about 10am sunday, thats where im meeting a couple people at. So if anyones coming, be at hicks about 10am.|
|04-01-2013 09:17 AM|
|KentuckyMike||I got a couple buddies coming down from Ohio next weekend. I thought they were coming this past weekend. If they head back to Ohio early Sunday, I will head out that way.|
|03-31-2013 08:55 PM|
|jordorunway||So the plan is going to strawberry Sunday around 10am.|
|03-30-2013 11:54 PM|
