|legitposter||My spare is also not the same size as my main 4, so I also have to do a four-wheel rotation. It is too much work to do front<->back and then side<->side all at the same time. So I do front<->back every 3k then side<->side every 3k, and repeat.|

what if you are rotating 4... my spare is NOT the same tire / size....
it IS the same diameter so in a pinch it will work well as a spare..
I went with 275/65-18 Grabber AT2s , they are exactly the same diameter as the stock 255/70-18 Duelers....
So how should a 4 tire rotation be done?

Holy 3 1/2 year old thread revival, Batman.
Anyway, I will be rotating all 5 every 5,000 miles, roughly every other oil change.

|jmb6420||I always do a 5 tire rearward cross rotation every 5K miles. There are several reasons for the 5 tire rotation... wears all tires out at same interval so I get more mileage before I have to replace them. If I have a flat, the spare is going to be the same size (tread wear) as the tire it's replacing. When I replace the tires, I have to buy 5 of them anyway, so changing brands, sizes, etc, doesn't matter. They will all 5 be the same.|

Never.... on a regular basis.
I examine my tires often, and if I see excessive wear on a tire, I move it to where I feel it will be "safest". My biggest problem is outside tire wall scrub.
I never rotate in the spare, because when I by a new set of tires, chances are it will be an orphan anyway.
In 46 years of truck ownership, I have never purchased the same tire vis a vs size, make or model. Something is always changing.
Just my opinion!

|Pipper99||Discount tire always balked at doing the recommended cross rotation on my Expedition. Every time they'd say, "we normally just do front to back and back to front", so I'd have to stand there and watch them.|

Discount Tire does mine every 6K. I even get an email, reminding me that it's time to "Git 'er done!"
Ditto on the 5-Tire Rotation too! It'll give you nice even tread wear!

Between 4 and 6 thousand miles. Depends upon where I am and what I plan to do soon.
5 tire rotation too.
Spare to RR, RR to RF, RF to LR, LR to LF, LF to Spare.
