sonofabeach A wiring harness is not really neccessary. Maybe it depends on your environment.
I've had my hardtop for 2 years and have never felt the need for a harness but then I live in Florida. My theory being if the soft top is fine with no wipers or defrost then why one for the hardtop?
But then my hard top was free and other than replacing a window I've put no $$$ into it. Hell, I haven't even bolted mine in yet. I'll get some bolts and wing nuts one of these days.
But hey, like with all Jeepers it's whatever floats your boat.
Come to think of it I don't even know why I have my friggin' hard top on right now.

Neil F. As indicated above, if you want a hard top, try to find one with the top. A used hard top can be 400-1000 in asking price. You have to find one local otherwise shipping will kill a deal. A soft top is easier to get later and if necessary can be shipped. You can also get the frame and fabric seperate.

As far as top to fit, any 97-06 hard or soft top will fit.

Jerry Bransford The wiring harness is available separately from the dealership & it includes, at least it did for my '97, a new windshield washer bottle & separate pump for the rear wiper. The harness itself is a fairly straight-forward installation & not difficult at all.

That said, I wouldn't bother buying the wiring harness. I can count the times I used the hard top's rear wiper on one hand over the years. Or maybe two fingers. Other than that, all you need are the six nuts & bolts to hold it to the rear of the tub & that's it.

wasurfer86 i would try and find a jeep that comes with a hard top, you would only pay half as much to buy a soft top vs a hard top

T-BONE N BIXBY Make sure you have the wiring harness to run a rear wiper and defrost. It will plug into the driverside, rear corner of the top. I don't think they cost too much, but I have no experience wiring it up. JC Whitney probably has them, and so would Quadratec.
Other than that, make sure you get the (6) bolts to attach to the top to the hub. You will like your hard top in the winter.

Hard top question

I'm looking at a low mileage "06 w/soft top only, I'm gonna put a hard top on it.
I can pick up an OEM hard top off of an "06. My question-is there anything else I might need for the installation and if so where can I get it?
