|Headhauntcho||Had to ask if the nutter was good for the 4 cylinder 2.5l and Scott said no.. only for the 6 cylinder. I had the same issues and replaced the TBI unit in it for about 60 bucks re-maned. This is what the 2.5l uses to fuel the motor and they do get a little cranky with age. Two screws and 2 seals and out she will come.. Make sure you pull it out slow and watch the seals.. one of them falling into the carb and then trying to get it out can be fun.|

i had a simular problem - and chased it all day- my problem was the Distributor... although i wiggled it and there was no play - a 80 part fixed it.
i would check your timing - get a timing light on it and see where you are - but before that do a Nutter Bypass - ( very easy and cheap.. just search this forum)... then set your timing at 8 degrees.... with a bad distributor, my timing would fluctuate - causing a sputter once and a while -
the nutter bypass - bypasses the computer all together if your ECU is throwing any mixed signals... - also - do you have the original carb on it..?

My 93 2.5 runs great most of the time but every once in a while it starts sputtering and backfiring while driving for a few minutes and then clears up. It may not do it for a couple weeks and then out of the blue it starts again, usually after stopping for a few minutes and going into a store or something. There's always plenty of fuel. Any diagnosis out there?
