Jerry Bransford Is your winch's black negative power cable connected directly to the battery or to the frame?

mudslinger150 be faithful to that smitty built! it made you that $300, besides it'll probably last forever if you take care of it.

jwm1986 That short will cause a low voltage to the motor, which alone probably wouldn't hurt anything, but it's not good for it either. That grease idea should get you fixed.

KnottyBuoyz Put some dialectric grease on your terminals. I have to do this on my boat all the time. You should be able to find it at any auto parts store.

that feeling after pulling a v8 truck out/ winch help

Just pulled out a chevy 1500 out of about 2 feet of snow with the winch, Got him out but my winch was acting up. It was sparking from the ground on the negative terminal on the bottom of my XRC 8 smitty bilt winch. So i threw the cable inside, got home and it realed up just fine. It's snowing here in minnesota so I imagine there is water sitting in my connection, its just a bolt with the circular connections that the bolt runs through which screws into my winch. The rubber cap had worked its way off the connection, is there any kind of terminal stuff that is pretty good for that use? Would a ground shorting out like that hurt my winch motor?
