Why-Jay Sugar Land here. Yeah, Ive seen a few Wranglers running around with no flares. Doesn't seem to be an issue. Gotta love this state!

Locruid Only thing I can find in the Texas Vehicle code regarding Fenders/Mud Flaps is this:

Sec. 547.606. SAFETY GUARDS OR FLAPS REQUIRED. (a) A road tractor, truck, trailer, truck-tractor in combination with a semitrailer, or semitrailer in combination with a towing vehicle that has at least four tires or at least two super single tires on the rearmost axle of the vehicle or the rearmost vehicle in the combination shall be equipped with safety guards or flaps that:
(1) are of a type prescribed by the department; and
(2) are located and suspended behind the rearmost wheels of the vehicle or the rearmost vehicle in the combination within eight inches of the surface of the highway.
(b) This section does not apply to a truck-tractor operated alone or a pole trailer.
(c) In this section, "super single tire" means a wide-base, single tire that may be used in place of two standard tires on the same axle.

Also, see here:

In Oregon My wheels aren't supposed to go past the Fender flares, but I got about 2-3 inches past the flare and haven't been stopped. I've had 3-5 cops see me in the last month but never pulled me over (including one directly behind me). I'm sure I'm just playing with fire until I get that one City Cop who didn't get any the night before and cite me for it and when he does I'll just order 6" fender Flares and solve that problem.

I'm in Victoria Texas. I also called this a.m. to another vehicle inspection spot and asked the same question. They stated they would call me back with an answer. Ten minutes later the guy said you have to have them on for the inspection but after you leave you can remove them and drive without them with no problems.

jwells36 I live in Killeen. I have seen numerous jeeps around our area with little or no flare and they do not seemed to get hassled.

Garyk Not sure about TX but most MV laws have something about fenders and wheel coverings, like trucks have to have flaps.......then some just say fender, like you see on some hotrods...I guess it all depends on the cop who stops you and what he decides at the moment I have never seen anyone written up for not having wheel flares though..

Thanks for the info. I just wasn't sure because the young guy that did my inspection said I like driving jeeps so I figured maybe he was just overlooking something, but maybe not.

Fender flare laws in Texas

First off let me say I'm new to the forum, and there is lots of great info here. I searched this forum for the answer but didn't find anything. So my question is what is the law on fender flares in Texas? Right now I have none on my 92 yj.
I just raptor lined the inside and outside and was considering leaving them off.
On another note I just got the jeep inspected and the guy said nothing to me about the fender flares being off. Any info would be appreciated.
