Another sending unit fuel gauge question

Ok, here is my situation. 1987 jeep body, 2000 engine and fuel tank with a custom dash and gauges.
My fuel gauge works on full tank to half , but after that it shows empty and you have to guess. I'm thinking the gauge doesn't match the sender in ohms. I stayed up till 3 am searching forums on gauge answers. Best I can find is the 2000 ohm out at 20-270, but when I search for gauges to purchase I can't find any rated that way , I did find some 33 -230,,
Question, am I going to have to drop tank and ohm out the sender? Do they make adjustable gauges?
Help!!!!!!
