|Ryark||well i was driving up a steep hill on ice, i made it - but the back tires were spinning where as the front 2 where just creeping.|

no lockers will not change the speed the wheels turn!( front versus rear) it will not slow the rear axels, the speed diferential you are talking about is minimal, as a mater of fact front tires should turn faster than the rear. several diffrent things can be causing this ( rear end sliding on you)
1 led foot causing light rear to slide.
2 just light in rear end when making turns and you are not hooking up on slick
3 bad tires in rear cant gain traction.
if you are running wide tires you will have more of a tendancy to slip on snow
If you want your problem to stop, put a sandbag or two in there and slow down. and see what that does. (before you start spending thousands).
lockers will make rear tires turn the same ( like full tim posi) and if you are losing traction in the rear, it will be the same results. just ideas you could check! good luck.

Just read some reviews - says if you drive in ice or snow a lot, then pack a lunch because you'll be walking home.
so im guessing the aussie locker eliminates the slip differential so that both back wheels start pulling when you slip, if thats the case then yeah that would increase tail spin/slide

Throw a couple 50 lb. bags of salt in the back; it'll keep you from fishtailing unless you get really crazy.

I have ARB air lockers but their are plenty out their such as
They will make your axles one... Meaning your front passenger
tire wont spin without the front drivers....

Get Lockers and your wheels will spin together...
Are their better rebuild kits out their for the front
and rear diff's or are they all basically the same... ?
Both of mine are leaking a bit.... Not bad though.......

|jeepers92||perhaps the tail slide has to do with the weight being on the front axel and nothing on the rear food for thought. mine does the same thing and thats what i attribute the sliding to.|

hmm, that makes sense. the reason im asking is because im in the snow and ice and the back tires spin more than the front, which gives me extra tail slide. which is hazardous
how would i go about checking it out?

|Bobthegod||Well here's the breakdown, You got one engine that turns one transmission that turns the transfer case which turns the axles. The axles should have the same gear ratio. If you or some previous owner changed one of the axles to a differant for whatever reason and didn't replace it with the same ration.....One would be going faster then the other. In you case the rear seems to have the numerically lower axle ratio. Check it out.|

|OSUJEEPER||If you have a leak in the vacum line I would think it might loose pressure. But it is not moving so the gears will not seperate, and also when you start it back up it will gain vanum.. I also theought about the wheele Spin I can say I don't know about that the more i think about it I know they are connected by a chain, and it would only make sence to have them spinning at the same RPM, but what does logic have to do with it.|

-well my jeep has a vacuum engaged 4wd, i was told it would cut off if you cut the engine because you lose your vacuum pressure. ill take your word for it.
so the back and front tires should be getting the same amount of spin?

1. No the vehicle will stay in 4WD untill you put the selector arm into 2WD
2. I think the Manual says the axels are locked togather I believe there locked by a chain. My 93 had to have it replaced at one time long ago.

General 4WD questions.
94 YJ Wrangler
1. Does 4wd disengage when i cut the engine off?
2. In 4W High or low do the front tires get the same rpm's as the back? (because the back ones spin way more)
