Thanks for the info. I've thought about upgrading the transmission to an NV4500, but it's kind of bulky looking. Didn't know if I'd have any issues getting it to fit in. I plan to go SOA with a 1" body lift. So maybe there will be enough room. As I said before, I want to retain a 5 speed transmission.
Also was hoping to upgrade the front axle as well, but not sure what to go with. Are there any front axles out there with the same width and bolt pattern as the Ford 8.8's out of the explorers? Bolt pattern being the same isn't so much a necessity, but convenient when rotating tires.

Have you started considering the rest of your drive train? The transmission isn't the only thing you're going to have to replace..

|Coyote_94YJ||I wouldn't try to mate an AX15 to a built 350. One, it isn't going to last all that long. And two, when it does go you will have to buy all new adapters for the transmission upgrade. A big waste of money. You're better off upgrading the transmission at the same time as the engine swap. You will save yourself a lot of time and money.|

|schnutzy||if your going to grab that AX15, make sure you grab the T case as well. the output shaft on the AX15 will not match up to the Tcase behind your AX5|

Chevy 350 vs. AX15
I'm looking for parts to upgrade my 2.5L 95 YJ. Found a TJ in a junk yard with a good AX15. Will the AX15 hold up to some rough trail riding behind a 350? If I go with a built 350 that has a little more horspower than a stock 350, will it still hold up? I'm going with a Ford 8.8 rear and think the AX15 might be the weakest link here. I want to retain a manual transmission.
