23toyharris2012 I know this is an old thread but I'm having this exact problem. I had my oil, wires, cap, and plugs changed yesterday and its doing the same thing as described.. I took it back and they are pretty much staring at it and have been looking for codes for an hour.. they also replaced my freeze plugs because they were leaking?

rrich For some codes the defect has to be present for a longer time. Something is intermittent not long enough for the light to remain on. But it should be stored in memory anyway.

Indy When was the last time you did a tune up (spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, ignition coil)?

Neil F. You have to get the code to determine anything. Cycle the key off-on-off-on-off-on and the code should appear in the odometer window. Autozone woll also read the code for free.

Check Engine Light

ok...So I'm driving my 99 TJ down the highway and I start to feel a slight hesitation. Nothing big really, just a hint of trouble. When I get to the access road red light I look down and I see the "check engine" light is on. When I start to accelerate the jeep lunges forward like it's trying to stall, but then catches itself and keeps moving. If I slowly accelerate I don't have a problem, but if I try to accelerate normally it sputters at 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd gear.
What do I have? And what do I do?
