jdhallissey So lets put it this way. Your trans will not fall onto you without the pan there BTW. It drops about 2 inches then the motor mounts are fully flexed out. Why do I know this because I have tested to see how far it will move just in-case I don't have another jack stand to put under it.

burton160w It's a whole lot different and a whole lot more in depth and its actually useful rather then some bathroom reading material (not kidding, my FSM sits in my garage. My Haynes sits in the bathroom). He needs your year because the factory service manual changes per year and the private message is because they're technically under copyright, but they're available all over the web. It's pretty much the holy grail of wrangler repair guides.

hankity pankity yeah the mount was fine. it didnt so much fall...kinda shifted.

atthehop, is that much different than a haynes manual?

s3nt3nc3d Did you make sure you didn't damage the transmission mount when it went falling downward...it's been mentioned on here that it's attached to the plate and can tear if you don't undo the bolts in a specific sequence or something like that.

It's the Factory Service Manual. It's what the delaer uses to repair vehicles.

wolfen One thing to remember when working on a Jeep.................Yes that part is connected to the one next to it. I learned that the hard way replacing the engine.

catITguy Good learning experience....and maybe want to count your lucky stars, transmission on top of human body is not a good experience.

I did my own too and almost did the same thing.

Learning Experience

Well I am a total newb to Jeeps and love to do my own work when it comes to installing parts. Well this past weekend I got my Magnaflow catback in and after being quoted $190 for an install I decided it would make for a fun weekend with the wrenches. Before I go on please be aware that I did this with no Haynes Manual or instructions...just decided to have at it. Well when I looked under the Jeep I saw what looked like a skid plate to me blocked my access to the muffler bolts. I thought to myself," Ill just take this off and have nice access to bolts rather and fight to get at them." Well I took the whole plate off, and my buddy was at the back wiggling the tip to break it free from the mid pipe. When he broke it loose I was under right by the muffler. Thats when the whole tranny shifted down towards my face! Whew! I had no I idea that plate served at the mounting point for the transmission! HAHA Well after that I had to go down to Harbor Freight and pick up a floor jack and some jack stands so that I could get the tranny remounted. Needless to say it was quite the experience. It runs fine now and sounds great! Dont batter me too much haha
