Tail Light Guards

I'm looking at the Quadratec Rugged RidgeRear Euro Tail Light Guards and noticed that it might not be available for my year of my Wrangler. In talking with somebody from Quadratec, they indicated that I'd have to make notches in my hinges in order for it to work. Has anybody else done this, and have a picture of what the "notches" look like? It is said for all models of the 04-06 this has to be done.

I also wonder about the hinge being structurely sound. Seems like it wouldn't be a good idea to be cutting into a hinge.

Thanks in advance.
