This thread is over two years old and the last time he made a post was over a year ago, so I don't think you're going to have much luck.

dan188 haha, I am reading the comments about how much quieter people's jeeps are after a manifold change and man is that the truth! Mine was cracked when I bought my TJ and it looked identical to the pics above. It had three giant cracks... after changing it out I took my dad for a ride and his first response was "wow, your jeep isn't as big of a piece of sh#t as I thought. I can actually hear things other than the exhaust leak now."... glad you got yours fixed!

Storm27m Yeah, I went with the flex joint manifold that seems to be working well for people. At $67 shipped, I'll be happy if it holds up for a year or two. No way I was going to pay for OEM if there was a cheaper/better option

ryt2112 Congrats on the new manifold! That was one of the first things I got replaced on my TJ when I bought it... It had the typical crack right at the Y in the pipe. Almost as bad as yours... almost.
I know it makes a world of difference. It was kinda funny, the day after it went in, my girlfriend made the comment "I didn't know that a Jeep could be so quiet.. I thought they all sounded like that!" I told her that most of them do, but I wasn't going to listen to it... not when there was a flexible manifold that could be put on for about 100 bucks
the only problem with replacing the manifold is that after the engine is quiet, then you can hear all the other things that need to be fixed

MR.CLIFFORD Bring it over. We can find the sound!

Storm27m Apex, it's kind of hard to describe the noise. It sounded like a bad exhaust leak....kind of a pfffffy tick? It's definitely not a high pitch whistle, at least it wasn't in my case.

SPDNJOE For the clunking, check your upper shock mounts. I had a clunking over bumps and one of the shocks was looseat the cross pin.

K.C.'sJeep My brother replaced my exhaust manifold about 2 weeks ago. I know what you mean about it being quiet. I was driving along the other day and I was like, man it's so quiet in here. It's so nice. Mine wasn't cracked as bad as yours but it was cracked in like 5 different places.

Rogue X2 on turning up the radio.

I replaced my front upper control arms and bushings recently because of an excessive popping sound, and now I find that I ride around listening for noises as I turn.

So, I replaced my blown subwoofer and have been riding around listening to Guns N Roses all week!

2002Apex What kind of noise was it making. I know mine makes a high pitch whistle. Didnt know if it could be coming from a crack like yours.

My Jeep is a lot quieter now (new exhaust manifold)

I finally got around to changing out my exhaust manifold this weekend. I put in one of the ebay specials with the flex joints. I used the write-up off daily driven TJ:

[Repair] Exhaust Manifold Replacement Guide

It's a good write-up with good pictures. The only thing I did differently was that I did not remove the throttle body because it isn't necessary. I removed the cables off of it instead and left the TB on the manifold. I also replaced the fuel injector o-rings. They looked fine, but figured I'd change them since I had it apart anyways. Overall, it was a pretty easy job. The hardest part was accessing the bottom four bolts during removal AND installation. I was able to get to them from the top of the engine compartment by using just about every combination of extensions possible. I'm glad I have a lot of extensions. The job took me about four hours, not including a parts run to Ace Hardware. The ebay manifold came with new grade 8 nuts/bolts for the manifold/exhaust junction but the nuts were deformed. One trip to Ace and $0.98 later and I was back in business. I sprayed all the bolts down with PB Blaster the night before and had no issues getting anything apart.

So you want to talk about cracked? The old manifold was hanging on by a thread. Both of the pipes were cracked nearly all the way around. One was held on by about 1/4 inch and the other by about 3/4 inch. It also looked like the manifold had been repaired before (extra welds).

So like I said....my Jeep is MUCH quieter now. But now I have another problem. It's so quiet that I hear OTHER noises now. I've got a clunk in the rear end somewhere. I hear it whenever I go over bumps. I'm not going to worry about it right now because a lift is going on soon and it may replace whatever is doing the clunking. If it's still there after the lift I'll have to track it down.
