Garyk When you rebuilt it, you must have replaced the needle and maybe the seat. The directions in the kit should have given you the correct directions and measurement for setting the float.
It will mean taking the carb off and taking off the top. This is one reason I like Holley carbs, you can adjust the floats, power valves and jets without taking the carb off or half apart,

Garyk If it floods after its been running you could have a float/needle seat problem.

brent in az Sh*t man--I never thought of guitar strings---nice touch.

Dripping gas down the carb...did you put the throttle spring back on the right notch of the notched metal arm thing?

morphious positive seeing as i had the whole thing apart and took guitar strings and cleared all the jets and venturi's and what not. i cleaned that thing top to bottom no debris left in that thing. and u can tell when its running that its running right but for some reason it does this after i leave it sit.its like its dripping gas down the carb or something and its flooded and when i hold it open it gets enough air to start. but the choke is not the culprit its wide open

Maybe.

But you just said you had to flood it yourself to get it to start. This, in my experience (which isn't expert), is fuel starvation. This can be an intermittent prob. w/normal idling sometimes.

Now my second question would be you sure about rods/jets?

morphious ok any ideas on how to fix said problems. I'm pretty sure its not stuff in the inside of the carb that is clean i am sure of that. but the fuel pump shouldn't be bad. if it was it wouldn't hold high idle or speed and it revs fine once it starts but something is causing it to flood.

in the carb:
5) sticky throttle plate
6) foreign matter in jets or butterfly

Rebuilt an Edel 1406 once. Top to bottom with kit. Can't say things were entirely better after my handy-work...

brent in az Classic symptom for:
1)Dying Fuel Pump
2)Dirty Fuel Filter
or
3)Vapor lock.
or
4)PCV valve?

Anouther carter carb problem

ok so i had a problem today i rebuilt the carburetor and later found out it was the egr valve. so got that fixed and then now it runs really good and throttle response is way better. and all in all was a good thing until i took it for a drive. went into the store and came out about twenty min's later and the jeep wouldn't start. so i held the gas to the floor and it started like it was flooded. did this to me twice now and i am not sure if i put something back together wrong or what anybody got some ideas. and yes all vac lines are back right i checked that already
