|TOKKIE||Look for an override button, follow the lead from the red light to the control box, there should be another lead comming from the control box that has a button on it, hold this button in while turning the ignition on this should override the system. hope this helps.|

red LED was stuck on, key fob made the black box click when buttons pressed but to no effect....
all i did was take off the earth lead move it over and held it to the possitive for arround 30 seconds
reconnected then tried to start as normal
WORKED LIKE MAGIC!!!
THANKS TO YOU MY FREIND I WONT BE HOUSE BOUND THIS WEEKEND!!!
(i think you have to press the button on the fob to reactivate the immobiliser as it was still stuck on until i pressed it)

|kingrolo||thanks I'll try that. I got the jeep from a private seller here in the UK. Nice bloke who I'm still in touch with. I don't think he knows much more than me though. My jeep has no mods at all, it was pretty cheap, and I live in a low crime area (touch wood). I'm trying to avoid parting with any cash at the moment, but if all else fails I'll contact jeep uk as mentioned in the link you sent.|

|4Jeepn||Okay... it was a dealer add on.. I would start with a call to the dealer.. or Stolen Jeep - AUSJEEPOFFROAD.COM in this forum the member lists he has one as well on his 97.. perhaps join that forum and email.. Who did you get the jeep from??|

..that's pretty much all I have...it's a '97 TJ (UK model).
I have no paper work, no manuals, no circuit diagrams. I know nothing about the history of this 'black box' other than what I have discovered today...
The label says...
May & Scofield, Wrangler Alarm/Immobiliser
I have worked out the follow connections to the black box.
1. +12V permanent
3. +12V when ign key fully turned
6. Starter (if connected to 7 starter motor works)
7. Starter supply
8. +LED (should be flashing but it's fixed on)
What would 3&4 be? Are they inputs or outputs to the black box?
(resetting the system doesn't fix this problem)
(battery is fine)

|tlrrob1000||Try disconnecting the battery cables and touch the -/+ cables together for 30 seconds and reconnect the battery. I do believe this should reset the system.|

|4Jeepn||Give us some more details... what year is the jeep.. is this system you mention come with the jeep from the factory or was it added by you or the dealer or the person you bought the jeep from? Do you have any paper work on it, number to call etc? Are you sure the battery is holding a charge?|

Hello, excellent forum. Glad I found it
Recently my TJs main battery died after leaving the vehicle a bit too long without running the engine. I took the battery out and charged it but didn't put it back 'til about a week later. Now it's back in and the red lamp on the immobiliser is permanently ON, no flashing. Pushing the unlock button on the remote (I have the black key) causes one of the relays in the black box to click but the starter motor won't turn. All other electrics are on and working.
I've taken the black box out from inside the dash and by shorting the starter I can get the engine to fire up but it dies straight away.
The only error code I get is '12' which I guess is normal.
How exactly does my immobiliser work?
How can I bypass it to prove that it is faulty?
Do I need to send a signal to the ECU to keep the engine running?
Lots of Q's as this is all new to me since this morning.
