Rawkon can you get a shot of the rear shocks at ride height. I wanna see if rough country fixed the "shocks area way too long problem" yet

Bondo Black Dye

Here's a close up of the front fender with the use of the black dye. Purchased at Walmart in the automotive area.

marketvending Sorry, I did forget to mention the kit did come with T-case hocky pucks to lower it at least an 1 inch. It is counter productive to raise the Jeep overall then to lower the skid plate/T-case.

Every Jeep is different, someone can install a 3" (springs and shocks) and never get any vibration etc... while you could put on a 2.5" and may or may not need a T-case drop (which is only adding a few washers to lower the t-case a bit to straighten out the DS angle) or MML. But for the most part nothing more is needed for 2.5" and under. you might have to spend 5 bucks on a few washers to lower the T-case but that will be up to you. Lowering the t-case is counter productive to me since you spent all that money to gain clearance so if you want to play it safe get the springs shocks and a 1" motor mount lift and you will be all set. Keep in mind that a 2.5" lift is often times more than 2.5" depending on whats on your jeep for accessories. The 2.5" OME lift with heavy duty springs is almost 3" with a softop, stock bumpers, and no winch

Nova6 So am I understanding right? If I want a 2.5" lift, I can just buy springs & shocks and not have to mess with anything else? Because I was going to buy a 2.25BB seeing as it's my DD and I don't want to mess around too much with it yet. But if all I got to do is buy the set of springs and shocks, I just might as well go that route.

How high can I go doing this? Can I hit 3" without having to mess with anything else?

Rough Country lift with 2.5 inch lift and Track bar bracket

I did do the lift myself and was fun for me as I like the challange. A couple of 3 ton jacks from Harbor frieght and a floor jack made it all happen easier. Putting the longer springs in can be a little annoying, but if you take off the right parts that connect the axle the diff will be as low as needed. Harbor freight does sell a spring compressor tool for about $15.00 that will make the springs compress. Use a 1/4 drive socket extension to remove the upper two bolts on the rear shock mounts. They can be a bit rusty. Home Depot sells a rust blaster spray that can be sprayed on overnight that can help loosen all the bolts and nuts. As far as the paint. Just used a can of flat black paint and a brush. Takes forever, but no over spray. Just cleaned the parts off really well before painting. Used some brake spray cleaner on the diff cover and surrounding area to remove the oil. Makes the parts look new again. I did install the Rough Country track bar bracket and was about $18.00 for that part alone. Need a right hand drill to drill the hole thats above the diff while the diff is hanging down with no spring on the diff. I'm glad I planned ahead on that. Get the part before changing the springs out will make that an easier job. For me I like the lift. Go higher than 2.5 and more parts would have been needed. I could see putting on 32 x 11.50 tires with 15 x 8 steelies with 4 inch back spacing in the future on this lift. No other parts were installed releated to the lift. I do see however, some kits in this lift range include bump stop adapters to keep the springs from bottoming out. Not sure if this RC lift needs the bump stops. or look at other suppliers for these. Picture below shows me drilling on track bar braket to mount the new backet and then re-mount the track bar. Bracket is available at Rough Country. Its only good for a 2.5inch lift, but cheaper than a adjustable track bar that would be more universal if going higher on the lift later on.

djc225 what did you have to do to paint all the other parts? did you sand blast? did you remove everything or just mask and paint right on the jeep?

mrcarcrazy on a 2'' lift you shouldn't really NEED anything else...the trackbars and brackets are good to have, and become more necessary the higher you go.

Installing a lift on a Jeep is pretty straight forward, and not terribly difficult, just take your time and you'll be fine.

Make sure to check the Toe after the lift is installed, it will be off (not just recentering the steering wheel.)

Personally I would always recheck the toe again in about a month to make sure that the springs settling hasn't altered the toe out of spec. (hey its easy as pie to do, and it will save your tires.)

Best advice I can give is to have someone else there who knows at least a little about suspensions (preferred that they have done a lift or two). Oh and avoid breaking the Beer out until you are done working!

Bruck +1...I am really interested in a 2" lift myself, but I am not a very mechanical person. Wondering if all you really need is the lift kit itself or if other enhancements are necessary. Any tips you could provide would be great.

pking911 I am also interested in the 2.5 RC lift. Did you just install the lift only, nothing extra? (no trackbar relocation, etc)

Do you have a pic of the fenders after the bondo dye? I would love to see that.

marketvending quick fix for sun faded fenders. Go to Walmart and buy the Bondo black dye for plastics. Its located in the Automotive section. it works and kept me from having to paint or buy new ones. I also used it on the flat black paint on the bumpers and brings them back to life.

Same lift - very happy!

I just installed the lift a few weeks ago, very happy with the install and especially the ride!
It rides much nicer on the road now.
Seems to be taking the trails just fine.

Rough Country 2.5 inch lift Completed

Finally got all the components installed and new 31 x 10.5 tires. They actually measure about 30.7 in tire height. Anyway, I like the ride. Allot more firm than the old shocks and springs that were worn out. Anyone that would sit in the back seat with the old setup could be felt as a load while in the drivers seat. Not anymore, new shocks and springs took that bad tendency out. Now the ride is just the way I like it. Thanks Rough Country for the quality and price! The silver springs and shocks also match nicely with the stock silver wheels.

KawiTJ i had to adjust the part right at the pitman arm to straighten my steering wheel up, just loosen the two clamps and turn the adjuster untill the steering wheel is straight with the wheels.

Rough Country Track Bar Bracket

While I had the shock and springs out. I installed the RC track bar bracket. Using a 12.99 right angle drill adapter from Harbor Freight that made drilling the top hole easy.

marketvending I ordered my kit and will receive it this friday. I also ordered the track bar relocation brakcet. Should the bump stops have a addtional puck installed. I see the Old Man setup has the pucks for the rear bump stops to increase their length.

ropin321620 I just installed the same lift on mine. I didnt do anything to the steering except a front end alignment just to make sure. sure others with more knowledge will chime in also.

Question on 2.5 lift install

Hi All,

I just bought a 2.5" suspension lift from Roughcountry(new springs and shocks). The instructions seem pretty cut and dry the only thing not covered is if there are any changes that are needed to the steering. Will I need to add anything or adjust anything to compensate for the 2.5" of lift from the steering column?
