Main Divide is an interesting drive... I usually go in at Silverado Canyon (Maple Springs). I have taken that up and over past Beek's place and then out Skyline Dr to Corona.
Also went in at the same spot and taken the Main Divide over to Santiago Peak (highest spot in Orange County) then continued on to come out on Ortega Highway.
We always do a lot of stopping and looking around. We also pack a lunch and make a short day of it.
Neat area to drive around on the fire roads but no legal offroading in the area that I am aware of.

|Sinisterphoto||When are you planning on going out there? I went up the road bymyself the other time so i turned around after a little while didn't want to get stranded. Would like to go up and explore some more with a few more jeeps. Let me know|

The area has changed a lot in the last few years.
The barriers and such are numerous and growing as a few years ago nothing was gated/blocked/fenced off.
Used to be some pretty large water holes in the road when it rained also.
The road was pretty rough a few years ago, not any more. The last time I was out there I passed a PT Cruiser driving out.... they had graveled and graded the road to make it smoother. Granted the PT Cruiser was driving slow, but he was still able to navigate the road.
Still neat area to drive and check out even when staying on the road.
I originally posted to see about the side trail as it appeared to be a forest service type trail but sounds like it is NOT and it will be a matter of time before it is also closed.
Thank you all for the info on this area.

Wildomar OHV Area Made available for your use through an agreement with the US Forest Service and the California State Department of Parks and Recreation. This is the only area within the Trabuco Ranger District where Off-highway riding is permitted. We hope you enjoy the area safely and within the rules and regulations governing this area. This 360 acre OHV area contains over 4 miles of trails. Restrooms and well water are provided at the trailhead. A trail is provided between the campground and the OHV riding area for non-highway legal vehicles.
Cleveland National Forest - Wildomar OHV Area

I live less than 10 min from this trail. The land before you get to the Cleveland National Forest is privately owned. When I'm desperate for some dirt I'll drive down that road. As far as legality, their is a sign at the beginning of the road stating "NO OFF ROAD USAGE IS PERMITTED" The sign is pretty beat up. It seems every year they put up more barriers to keep off roaders out. I bet they will put more up next year. I won't off road there anymore. I see the Sheriff and Rangers out there more often. Even this morning. I went by to see how readable the sign is at the beginning of the road. I took some pics of recent barriers and signs put up this year. As I was driving down the road in my Jeep a Sheriff drove by me. He actually stopped a little bit in front of me. I thought he was going to get out and talk to me. Then he took off. ? Anyway, I enjoy driving down the dirt road. I just don't go "Off Road". Every time I go over there, I see the Sheriff or Rangers. Maybe some off you don't see the authorities when your out there. As for me... I must be a magnet.
Have fun out there..
P.S. Antone want to go across Saddleback mountain before they close the gate on the Ortega HWY side? It was open 10 days ago.

If anyone knows of a legal place to wheel in the OC please let us know,, from what I know growing up here 44 years, there are not any places beside the fire road up saddleback mountain and Wildomar or Ortega hwy. Other than that everything is either private land, or closed land.
I would love to be able to hit the trails right after work for a quick run as I am sure many would.. Please post legal spots thx

|SoCalJayhawk||Which trail do you catch out of Irvine Park? Where do you usually run it to?|

You might not be able to go all the way up windy ridge as I can only because I have a friend that has a key to access the gates.

Keep in mind guys that this is about the time of year they start closing gates on the fire roads up there. I have a great website that shows the status but it's on my PC at work. It's a county or gov. Website.
Please post results if you head up. My parents are visiting next week and I want to take them out. Not sure we'll have time for Big Bear so might stay close.

|Gunner||Welcome to the forum. Last time I was there they had fenced off a bunch of stuff on the right but that trail seemed open We started up it but it started raining and I don't think it is passable when wet. It had some really big rut's and washouts so we turned around.|

|Bigboyztj||Good Evening Everyone. I just bought my 5th jeep a couple months ago, and moved here from Florida a couple of years ago. I just heard about Holy Jim 2 weeks ago, but don't know any other jeep guys around here. I live in Laguna Woods, and would really like to find someone, anyone that knows the Holy Jim area. So if you here of anyone, I'm here. Thanks and have a great weekend.|

I took that trail once with my brother on our dual sports. Its a good climb, but at the top there are signs, basically saying no motor vehicles past this point. It's more for mountain bikers and walkers or horse people.
I'm from up there and know the area pretty well, so we kinda look the other way when the white things with words came up and keep going forward. We ended up coming out on top of live oak canyon rd, above Cooks Corner.
Sum it up, good hill climb turn around at the top and do it over again...
By the way there is a old man in Holly Jim that put 6-8 foot 2x4 with nails facing up in the puddles when it rains, the cops know about him but never catch him. Yea right. But be careful you will get flats from hit little deterrents.. My buddy got 3 one afternoon....

|Canyon Dweller||I have been up there several times. Not 100% sure on the legality but I have never had an issue... I would suggest to bring someone along as it gets real tippy in a few places. There are numerous places where the trail is somewhat washed out.... It's not too tough just a lot of pucker factor along the way.|

Holy Jim / Trabuco Creek Rd
Heading up Trabuco Creek Rd towards the Holy Jim Trail I've seen a trail that goes up the hill off to the left.
It is approximately 1.8mi off the pavement.
It has an old rusted up gate that I have never seen closed across it.
On Google maps it also calls the trail Trabuco Creek Rd and it goes up to Joplin Truck Trail.
Any ideas if this trail to the left that goes up the hill is an actual trail or is it technically off limits ?
Does it go through anywhere or is it a dead end ?
Too many people screwing about in the wrong areas has gotten alot of the start off the trail fenced off and I don't wan to contribute to the anti-offroaders if this an area I am supposed to stay out of.
Any ideas ?
