|zenman||I took hood spring out months ago and never any flutter. I live in Kansas, the # 3 windiest state, and also 150 years back in time. I don't know what the #1 and 2 states are. Enlighten me.|

|panthermark||I have the Rampage locking latches...I like them. But I don't do a lot of hard-core off-roading that will really flex the hood. I also hit each lock with a blast of WD-40 each fall to keep the tumblers from locking up.|

I didn't like the hood flapping due to the strong winds last week, with winter coming, I install a set of Daystar Hood Wranglers today.
The wranglers are stiffer. than the OEM rubber ones... the latches are harder to latch but I'm convince that it will fix the hood flapping for good.
I'm a bit currious to know if anyone had issues with the latches themselves due the fact that they are much harder to lacth... will the plastic latches eventually beak due to the higher tension???

Springs been out a couple days now. Passed a couple big rigs going 60 in the other direction and not a hint of movement. True test is the same thing with a headwind, today was very calm.
Prior to removing the spring just going down the highway at 65-70 and hit some wind would make it flutter real bad. So far so good, I'll take it for a free 30 second mod.

|BigSkyJeep||Thinking of going with the Rugged Ridge latches. I hear it's a pain to get the oem latches off due to space constraints and getting a wrench on the bolts. How much of a pain is it to swap these?|

well I removed the spring and the flapping has significantly reduced - so far!

I did the same. The Daystar replacements solved my issue.

|5JKs||Nah, they are crap. There isn't any speakable body/frame flex on a flat two lane highway and the hood will still lift 2" with an oncoming semi. Perhaps the air dam helps, but a factory setup lifts unacceptably. Removing the spring makes the hood heavier, but once it starts to lift, it moves full distance.|
|11-07-2013 10:08 PM|
They do what they are designed to do. Flex with the body. You can put on heavier latches but if they are too tight the hood will flex instead of the latches giving.
The airdam does make a difference with hood flutter.

|spinlock||There is no excuse for this after 7 years. Hood flutter with the air dam on should have been solved years ago with a redesigned hood latch worth $0.50 more.|

|chazman||Did you remove the splash shield under the front bumper? I removed ours and the hood started flopping around at highway speeds and we got 2 MPG less. I put the splash shield back on and it returned to normal. When I put the aftermarket bumper on, I put the splash shield back on.....|

Removed the spring today. You really notice how much upward force that spring is applying once you remove it. I'll see how she is with just that out, if it's still bad I'll try the zip ties. I like these free/cheap mods!
|11-05-2013 03:12 PM|
Zip ties sitting in sun will get brittle and fail when you need them.

Hood spring will not always solve it in strong winds or on 2 lane roads with opposing semi trucks.
I've had Zip Ties on for 100K miles now, works great!
