Milkman I80 had a lot more construction than I70. We were lucky and hit Chicago around 3 am so no trouble there but I imagine traffic would be pretty crazy.

On I70 on the way out Kansas City was the only construction we hit. Both are nice drives but with traffic in Cleveland and construction I80 took us longer even though it was supposed to be 2 hours shorter.

Thanks John, really sorry we missed Colorado on this trip but between the John Brown Highway and an icy I70 through the Eisenhower Tunnel and highway we were ready to leave Colorado behind. Next trip for sure will include Colorado wheeling.

Glad I'm back at sea level for sure. It really hit us on a hike when we were in Ouray and Glenwood Springs. Feeling your heart beating heavy in your chest after a short hike is pretty crazy.

They are JW Speaker projector LED headlights. Be prepared for sticker shock, they are not cheap.

Get the EVO skids for your next trip. Love mine. Gas tank skid seems to have done a great job, but that looks like one hell of a bash.

And your right Dave, hard coming back except for wife and kids although my wife is in Asia for two more weeks.
The first time I made a trip like this I decided to try the I80 on the way home. It sucked. I do I70 back and forth now.

Milkman So taking inventory of the Jeep now that it's been vacuumed out and washed. Everything I added was well used on the trip: tires, lift, lights, etc.

I now wish and recommend to others to take the advice and focus on some skid plates for underneath, only thing I wish I had.

Some rock rash on the front control arm and a nice dent in front crossmember (not sure how it missed that exhaust loop):

Milkman We made it home yesterday afternoon, drove straight through with just a quick 1 hr nap at a rest stop. Thanks again for all the help Chris!

We ended up trying I80 on the way back and other than the 40-50 mph winds across Nebraska and Iowa it was an easy trip back.

And your right Dave, hard coming back except for wife and kids although my wife is in Asia for two more weeks.

Milkman After the museum we made our way to Relocatedduckman's house to drop off the trailer.

He's got a great TJ and showed us some awesome pics of you Colorado wheelers on the trails. From the looks of it a dedicated Colorado trip is in order. Thanks for the help Chris!

Milkman We set out from Glenwood Springs in the morning and planned to head to Leadville to check out the mining museum. The Colorado weather had other ideas. While Independence Pass was open but the pic made me not want to try it:

So we stayed on 70 through the pass to Denver which was still a slippery beautiful drive. We were early so we decided to hit Golden, Colorado. We planned to tour the Coors plant but tours were closed when we got there so we went up Lookout Mountain to check out Buffalo Bill Cody's grave and museum. It's worth a stop, very well done and the view is spectacular.

I even learned something interesting, Buffalo Bill lived in Rochester, NY for several years right near where I live.

Milkman They stopped maintenance on that road on Oct 15 and it won't reopen until June 1st. The shape the road was in I think we may have been one of the last to clear that road this year.

It was getting dark so we found a cheap hotel in a town called Glenwood Springs. We googled what to do here and found this:





They believe Doc Holliday was buried in this cemetery and created this memorial.

Milkman Moab would be awesome in the snow. Can't wait for pics of that. Yesterday we rolled out of Moab since the wind/rain drove us into the Aarchview Inn. Archview campground turned into a dust bowl in 30+ mph winds.

We decided to head to Colorado and check out a few spots. We went over the what the locals call the John Brown Highway which connects Moab area to Gateway Colorado. I think the guide calls it the Castleton Trail.

It started out great with a stop at a movie museum and a picture with castle rock:

After getting on the highway we ran into some snow and ominous clouds:


Finally getting to the top and down the backside was pure mud and ruts, slickest stuff I've driven on. Going downhill in the switchbacks was interesting



And here's the Jeep caked in mud after we finally broke through the pass. We had to stop and use a bucket in a creek just to see out the side windows:



On the way into Whitewash, Colorado we ran into this in the middle of the road. A mule that wouldn't let me by, kept walking right in front of the Jeep:

NFRs2000NYC It really is impossible to capture how amazing those views are. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if you own a wrangler, you owe it to yourself to get out to Moab, its a trip of a lifetime. Glad you had a great time and came out unscathed. I've always wanted to see Moab covered in snow, so hopefully I'll be out there over Christmas and New Years.

Milkman Once at the top we visited Dead Horse Point. A short walk and our best view yet awaited us. The coolest thing about doing this last was we got to see today's trip as well as Hurrah and Chicken Corners. Pictures just do not do this view justice. Plan your trip and get out here to see this yourself!

Milkman Utah will forever be known to me as the land of beautiful sights and terrifying heights. Coming from a state that guard rails a slight hump in the road, driving shelf roads with nothing but a 1000 ft drop a couple tire widths away is quite a shock.

Today was Potash Road and on to Shafers Switchbacks. Again another great easy drive with varied terrain and stunning views.

GHT Thanks for the info on tire pressure Sinister! We did not get to run Engineer or any other Colorado trails ot her than Medano due to snow. We talked to some locals and they said trails were closed since they had 2 ft of snow. Said come back in the summer.

Milkman It's amazing to me how everyday we run a different trail and we see a different side of Moab we haven't seen yet. Hurrah Pass was probably my favorite run so far even though it was the easiest. How a trail can be both easy and terrifying at the same time just makes it great. If any of you head out here you have to do this trail.

We then continued on to Chicken Corners. Driving through the flat land after Hurrah we kept saying I wonder why it's called Chicken Corners until we reached it...haha.

On the way back we hiked up a trail and shot this. Standing there looking out over this scene with not another person in sight for miles really strikes home how beautiful it is out here.

Wife and I went to the Doll House in the Maze District summer before last. Did fine with an almost stock JK pulling an old boat trailer that I modified for off road. Just need a little planning, smart packing and a simple permit process. ( lots of food, water, extra gas and a portable toilet ). An awesome experience in one of the most remote areas in lower 48. Spent three nights at doll house #3 and only saw one other person in four days. A very thirsty cyclist coming out of Tea Pot Canyon as we were getting ready to enter. Probably a good idea not to go alone. Only damage was a few battle scars on some skids and a cracked weld on the trailer. I used a strap to secure it and got it fixed in Moab.
I have a post in Trail Pics below. From the looks of your rig and a little patients you would do fine in the Maze.
