|jeepluver1956||Good choice on Coleman. A friend had one from Gander Mountain - a little pricey, but it had the instructions sewn into the tent bag.|

Well I looked over everyone's suggestions and came to the conclusion that some of you really spend some serious change on your camping gear . I reevaluated my camping needs and decided that a good cheap a$$ tent is really all I need. I sprung the $ 100 bucks and bought a Coleman. I figure that if the thing destroys itself after a couple of uses then I'm really not out that much money.
Thanks for all your replies.

Here are two:
My friend Mark and I both bought some there (Acadamy) last year.

Did you see?
Did you see all the deals they have at Acadamy this week?
There are some great deals on a lot of good tents.

|MR.CLIFFORD||We also have a coleman bayside 7 person tent that has a dog den in it. The base is 15x10 and there is plenty of room in it for 4. I need to air it out if we are going to use it next weekend.|

We use a Coleman dome it's been a good tent. Says it'll sleep 6 we only have 4 and still have plenty of room.
Looking at getting a Sports Tent that sets up in the bed of a truck this summer.

I have a Coleman 6 man (or 8 man ?) that we got at Target a few years ago. I don't really like it, but it has not broken or deteriorated yet. We use it often. What I dont' like is the curtain that separates the 2 "rooms", not well designed. One of the zipper pull tabs has broken off of the front entry door. The tent does not hold up in wind at all (lays flat). But it's tall enough for me to stand up in (I'm 6 foot tall) and has plenty of room for 4 adults. It was inexpensive.
We also have a North Face 2 man tent for backpacking. I can't say enough good things about this tent. Based soley on this tent, I would buy North Face equipment again.

Is this for car camping where you drive to a place and setup or are you hiking in? That will make a huge difference.
REI is a GREAT place to find great tents, but you will pay. Dick's Sporting goods has some decent tents. I got a Coleman 8 man tent from Target several years ago - and it's been used a handful of times. The bag that holds it fits between the cage bars on the TJ, so I strap it to them when travelling. It is a heavy bag (for a tent), but it is very heavy duty.
The hiking-capable tents will be a lot lighter, but the material may not be as strong.
Define family size - 4, 6, or 8?

|Adventurous||I second the Sierra Designs recommendation. I have backpacked/car camped with them for 7 years now and have not had a single problem. No leaks and no deterioration like a budget tent.|

I bought the Sierra Designs Bedouin 6 a couple of summers ago. The thing is very well made as is typical of Sierra Designs tents and gives you plenty of room inside.
Been a big Sierra Designs fan for years running several of their backpacking tents.

I need a new tent
Anyone have a suggestion for a new family sized tent? I've found a few online that I like but then I read the reviews and they're mostly terrible. I don't camp very often (once or twice a year) but I'd like to have a BIG heavy duty tent that can stand up to the elements. Most of the places I camp are not that cold but can get pretty windy so a durable tent is a must.
Any suggestions? Any particular brand to stay away from? Any brands that are better than all the others?
