CMEvans79 I want to get one of these

jamesdeanblvd I've got an Alpine unit that is XM ready, Blue Tooth capability, detachable face, front and rear aux inputs, Ipod ready. I love it, and I've got less than 200$ in the head unit. I didn't buy the blue tooth add on, but, the installer gave me the cables for my Ipod. Lots of good choices out there.

Sorry...dont really have time for that today.

You're not gonna get top of the line/crystal clear/indoorlike call quality with these units in the first place.
Second, it's a Jeep. = Loud and noisy to begin with.
Third, cruising down the highway at high speeds...in a Jeep with the top off....
that's really not going to be ideal for having superior quality call.
Not that it can't ever be done, but not ideal.
Just saying....

However,
I've heard the Jawbone Prime headset does amazingly well in that type of situation.
Another user on here called me going 65mph down the freeway,
with his soft top flapping all around,
and he sounded fine.
If he hadn't told me the conditions, I wouldn't have known all that was going on around him.
That might be a good item for you to try out.
Holy cow bud. ya'll just calm down a bit. Don't you like going for rides with your top off? I was saying maybe sometime in the future you're going for a spin with the top out test it out and let me know. Not asking you to be my personal product tester or something lmao. I hate headsets...

if it's good enough that you could communicate (ok) I'd be fine with it. I'm not trying to woo the ladies with the top down on the phone. The one in the front seat wouldn't like that...

cstegner I got this receiver

www[dot]amazon[dot]com/Sony-CDXGT640UI-Player-Receiver-Black/dp/B002OQ1J12/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271191147&sr =1-1

(this forum has something seriously against amazon :P couldn't link the URL for some reason, so remove the [dot]s and replace with periods)

and this kit

link

and everything installed super easy in about 15 min and results were super clean and couldn't be happier.

I honestly don't know.
I haven't had my top off since I put that in.
However...I've jammed down the highway at 65-70mph with the window down,
and have been able to hold a decent conversation.
you should try it for me i have a feeling if mounted right it would work.

When I have the top down I'm usually enjoying the ride more than I want to talk to anyone anyway!

Love the unit, been looking at getting a new one myself, think I found it...

But, I bought the BT adapter and just mounted it in the Glove Box.
Sounds like you don't want to do that though.

Now that I'm thinking about it,
I think only the BT Ready Units had the USB Inputs both front AND rear,
and the BT built in units just have it in the rear.
In all honesty, using the one in the rear is the way to go.
In a Jeep, it's very easy to run your hook-up into your Glove Box.
Plus, it protects your device, and there aren't any wires showing.
Much cleaner IMO.
I have a 160GB HD mounted in mine.
It's pretty slick man, you might want to consider that.
(hard drive is on top, BT is on bottom)

If I were to recommend any 1 unit to you,
This is the unit: (it's an 09 model)
Pioneer Premier DEH-P710BT CD receiver at Crutchfield Signature

It has 2 USB hook-ups. (both rear)
It comes with the Ipod cable. (some brands make you buy an additional cable)
It comes with a Steering Wheel Remote and Dual Mic for your BT.
7 band EQ (a MUST imo)
Plus...it's a Premier unit. (2 year warranty, and higher pre-outs)(better unit than a standard Pioneer Unit)

If you wait until April or May when the 2010 models are available,
this unit's price will drop considerably.
However....here's a brand new one on ebay for $256 to your door.
If it were me, I'd buy this one and not look back.
99.7% positive feedback on 22,649 sales.

PIONEER DEH-P710BT CD MP3 USB w/ BLUETOOTH PLAYER *NEW* - eBay (item 120536524592 end time Mar-28-10 12:12:47 PDT)

Item# 120536524592

But If you'd like,
I'll sell you mine with the BT adapter for the exact same price,
and I'll BUY THE ONE ON EBAY!
can you talk on the bluetooth with the top down? haha

Well, that's the whole point....a lot of units come with complete bluetooth built in, such as some of the Sony Mex units (the 3800 comes to mind).

Pioneer USA - DEH-P7100BT - CD Receiver with Full Motion OEL Display, Built-In Bluetooth and USB Direct Control of iPod

One has the USB in the front, and the other is in the rear.
If you want both, you'll probably have to buy a 2008-2009 model.
Which is fine, I have an 2008 model and love it.
Just as many features as the 2010 models,
and you can probably pick one up really cheap off of ebay.
That's probably the only place that your going to find new 2008-2009 models though.

Good luck.

New Head Unit

What would be your suggestion for a replacement head unit in my '05 Wrangler Sport (single din unit is what I'm looking for)? I want it to have:

1-Built in BlueTooth
2-Ipod Control
3-XM ready
4-Aux input(s)..preferably front & rear
5-Reasonably user friendly interface
6-Hopfully removable faceplate

Thanks,
Richard
