*LOL* No, I definitely don't want the Jeep to ride like a car - if that were the case, I would have bought a car in the first place. I also don't have any plans to take it out for heavy-duty off-roading, but I would like to replace the shocks with something that is a little bit better than OEM parts. I need something that is nice but won't break the bank, if that makes sense?

I've had the steering stabilizer replaced and am pretty happy with the Black Diamond one (I went with that because I got it brand new for $30 from a friend whose Wrangler Unlimited got wrecked before he had a chance to put it in). It does make a difference that is noticeable to me.
31x10.5 tires will fit on TJ's stock with no lift. If you think you may have a lift post some pictures of your jeep...pictures of the suspension the coils/control arms and tops of the coils. We will let you know if you have a lift and what it is.

Untill we do know if you have a lift or not we can't tell you what size shock to get....either way if you do black diamond shocks are fine for normal driving and mild off roading.

Also you state you don't want to break the bank.....Skyjacker Hydro shock ride good and they have several different size to accomidate different lift heights. They can be picked up on jegs or summit racing sites for around $36 each.

n8smitty I have had the Black Diamond 3" lift on my Jeep for over a year and I like it. It rides very similar to stock and everything seems to be holding up to being a DD. As of now I would recommend Black Diamond lifts and shocks. Just my 2 cents.

ryt2112 I don't have any experience with the Black Diamond shocks, but my thinking is that there are some things you don't want to go halfway on, and suspension is one of them.
Do yourself a favor and get something decent. My choice was OME, but there are several others as good or better.

HyperBuzzin I got a set of Black Diamonds about 6 months ago,when I put a 2.25" BB on my LJ. They do seem slightly stiffer than stock, but not much.
If you're going for the ride of a car, these aren't it. But if you realize a Jeep isn't a car, and isn't meant to ride like a car, then (IMO) they work just fine.

OK...please picture of your jeep sir.

And the age old Rubicon lift question jeep factory lift. NOPE..it doesn't. My info is all from jeep and my just retired uncle.."worked in the jeep line for 33yrs" putting them together.

The ONLY differance between normal ol' wrangler coil springs and Rubicon model coil springs is the spring rate of the spring. Nothing more nothing less. That is the referance of "lift" on the build sheets from jeep. Jeep also used a different spring in the rear of LJ's or Long wheel base TJ's to help with the load and weight of the vehicle being increased. These springs are also produced with a higher spring rate, not lift but spring rate. There is a BAD fairy tail story about ..."hey im jeeper snuff and I just installed some rubicon take off springs in my Sport model and I got a inch lift!!!.....""" Well...no, no you didn't you just replaced old saggy springs. Again proven.

As far as Black Diamond shocks...they are ok. And they are rebadged Superlift shocks. They work fine as a stablelizer. Are there better products, ofcourse but not everyone needs the best. For a factory jeep such as yours you'll be just fine running a black diamond shock or stablizer.

Mine is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, which came with 31x10.5 tires and a "factory lift kit" (as per the dealer's print out of all the options on it). It does not specify the size/height of the lift and I am not aware of it being the "Rubicon package" nor is it labeled anywhere as such.

snwchris For Shocks don't waste the time or money with the Black Diamond ones, I would get either Rancho or OME (Old Man Emu)

As for "factory lift" the only Jeep that actaully came with some what of a lift would be the "rubicon" package, which had I believe different springs and spring rartes to fit 31's from the factory.

Black Diamond Shocks? Opinion?

I was wondering what everyone thought about Black Diamond products, such as shocks and steering stabilizers? They seem to be pretty inexpensive compared to some of the other products out there and was wondering whether they would be worth getting to replace OEM parts?

Also ... and this is a really dumb question (please bear with me), exactly how much of a lift is the "factory lift" on a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited? Is it 1.5" or 2"? I cannot seem to find that info anywhere in the paperwork that describes my vehicle, including the dealer's print-out?
