Do you get any 4x4 dash lights to come on?
So, the only place where the jeep will move is 2hi (lever all the way forward). Everywhere else the jeep acts as if its in neutral? Let's forget about 4x4 right now. Even in 4lo the rear wheels will turn and you can tell you are in 4lo vs 4hi. Then if the front wheels aren't turning we can get to that later.
I would take off the boot around the transfer case shifter. You should see this "gate". Its just a piece of metal that makes you move the shifter to the right and down to get to 4lo. Here is a picture, notice the "notch" cut into it.
When the shifter is resting on the notch, that should be 4hi. If you move it to the right and down, that is 4lo. If everything checks out up top, go under the jeep.
The linkage is adjustable. Although, if you can go from all the way up, to where 4lo should be. You should hit 4hi somewhere, even if its not adjusted properly.
Report back with your findings. Pics would be helpful. Maybe we can see something.

|Thomas S||Have you tried going to 4lo?|

|OregonPlinker||You might be passing 4hi. Its just one click back. After that you will hit neutral and 4 low is over and back from there. You need to have the tranny in neutral to engege 4L.|

|Boanerges||It's shifting but not in gauging, the transmission stays in neutral until shifted back into 2 wheel drive!|

1) Does it shift down towards 4hi at all?
- When i first tried to shift mine in 4hi i "hit" a snag about 1/2 way there. I put it back up into 2hi and pulled it back like a man. It went further this time and the 4x4 light came on. You can go under the Jeep and spray some PB plaster on the linkage. I had to do this to get it into 4lo, and more hitting it like a man. After you get it, you shift it back and forth a few times and everything loosens up.
2) And how are you determining that it is not in 4x4?
- If you are only going by the light, this may be your problem. It could be as simple as a burnt out bulb. My suggestion is to go to some pavement. Crank the wheel and begin to move forward. You should feel binding in 4x4. Do this in 2 wheel drive first so you can feel the difference.

|harleydragon||sometimes you have to hit the shifter sideways pretty hard before it will shift..especially if it does not get shifted very often|
