04-27-2010 02:43 PM
Bignuke ok, thank you!

If some of the wires don't make up just leave them right??
04-27-2010 02:35 PM
ratuna In the first pic cut to the right of the piece in your hand. Your correct in the 2nd pic
04-27-2010 02:30 PM
Bignuke So... these are the places I cut??

and on the old one...

Second one is hard to see, but it's red also..

ratuna Like this one KENWOOD JW-KN1817 - Custom "Plug 'n Play" Wiring Harness for 97-02 Jeep® Wrangler TJ with Kenwood In-Dash CD & DVD Receiver - Quadratec
04-27-2010 02:13 PM
ratuna Yeah, then just splice them color for color. Or like JD said above get a harness from best buy to hook up a kenwood head unit to a factory Jeep harness and you can skip the splicing and just plug and play.
04-27-2010 02:06 PM
Bignuke Thanks. So I cut the wires in the new stereo harness when they start to seperate. And also same thing with the old??
04-27-2010 01:46 PM
ratuna Step 1: Unplug the harness from your image shack #2 pic and cut the wires just to the right of all of the butt splices, leaving the wires coming out of the black and grey plugs as long as possible.

Step 2: Cut all the wires in pic #3 just to the right of your hand leaving them as long as possible coming out of the black plug.

Step 3: Butt splice the wires from the Black & Grey plugs from pic #2 to the wires from the black plug of pic #3.

Step 4: Plug everything in take top and doors off the Jeep crank up the tunes and go for a ride!

Bignuke Should I get a connection from the back of the new radio to the big gray harness?
04-26-2010 07:00 PM
Bignuke In the picture of the new stereo's wiring, there is a black piece on the left end and that is what fits in the radio, but my old harness, (which the end is white) won't fit in...
04-26-2010 06:48 PM
Bignuke Here is what I got from walmart...

I don't know what to do with the big gray plastic part that is sending out loose wires...

That is the wires that came WITH the new stereo...

That is the walmart wires in place, they do plug in, but I don't know what to do with the big gray plastic thing.. lol
04-26-2010 06:37 PM
Bignuke Let me get a pic for you... lol
04-26-2010 06:10 PM
jdhallissey oh you have the plug for the jeep and also the radio- then the loose wires are just that. You can zip tie them all together and leave them in the dash . Sorry I thought you didn't have the head unit harness. My bad. Your good to toss it back in and turn it on.
04-26-2010 06:01 PM
Bignuke Now see, I went to walmart and got one, it said 97-06 wrangler, and I tried to plug it in, but I don't know what to do the loose wires on it?
04-26-2010 05:59 PM
jdhallissey Run to bestbuy tell them you have head unit so and so with the model number they are normally 10-20 bucks or walmart has them to I think for 8 bucks. On the package at walmart it tells you what head units the plugs fit.
04-26-2010 05:56 PM
Bignuke How do I find the correct wiring harness?
04-26-2010 05:54 PM
white91yj wires are pretty standard these days

white,grey,purple,green are speakers
yellow,red power
black ground
blue.. antenna or amp power
04-26-2010 05:49 PM
jdhallissey I am looking now- I tried to put them here for a view but they don't..

So they are both aftermarket radio's correct? IF so then just get the right wiring harness to plug into the back of the one your buddy is getting you then match the wire colors going to the jeep and it will work.
04-26-2010 05:48 PM
jdhallissey can you put those on photobucket? they are not a direct drop onto the forum. They make you download each one to view them.

Bignuke If you can't see the pics... Here is a link to the album... ImageShack Album - 5 images

Help with stereo!

Hey guys, I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out installing this headunit...

My friend gave it to me because my backlight on mine doesn't work, and he had an extra, it is from a ZJ Jeep so..

Here are some pics, any help?

P.S. - Can anyone show me where the antenna wire hooks up behind the glove box? My wire got loose and came and can't find where I put it...

Here is the new one I'm trying to put in...
